Theaters
Teatro Municipal
São Paulos municipal theatre is one of the citys most impressive buildings. Constructed in 1903 and designed by the architect Ramos de Azevedo, the building was inspired by the Paris Opera House. The theater was renovated in 1991 and currently has a capacity of 1,585 people. Located in the center of São Paulo, the theater is host to the most important local and international shows and cultural events.

Violetta Valéry, a beautiful and young member of the royal court, hosts a party at her house. However Violetta is seriously ill and confesses her concern about her health to her friend Flora Bervoix. One of the invited guests, Viscount Gastone introduces Violetta to the young Alfredo Gérmont, her admirer, a they instantly fall in love. Violetta however is unsure, worried about her illness and feeble state she is in.
They decide to live together. Violetta receives a visit from Alfredos father, Giorgio Gérmont, who advises here against living this scandalous relationship. When Alfredo returns, Violetta tells him of his fathers visit and despite her deep love for him she decides to leave, asking that he continue to love her.
Some time later at a party at Floras house, Alfredo sees Violetta with an old flame, Baron Douphol. Alfredo, who is still very much in love with Violetta, insults the Baron and challanges him to a duel.
In the final act, Violetta, who is seriously ill, reads a letter from Alfredos father telling her that Alfredo was injured in the duel but is recovering and now knows the truth why she left him. Feeling that she is coming to her end, Violetta waits for Alfredo to visit her. When he finally does, the two lovers embrace and Violetta dies in Alfredos arms.
