    Hi All,

We are currently upgrading the site and plan to move to a new host.

Because of the problems with the current forum the Site Designer has recommended using the new forum, which is at http://gringste.nextmp.net/forums/

You will need to register at http://gringste.nextmp.net/register/. After you have registered please send an email titled “Gringoes.com Forum Registration” with your email address in the content to the Site Designer, farbewerk@gmail.com. This is to ensure your account is not treated as a spammer.

The long term aim is to migrate the content from this forum, but this is still a work in a progress.
Of course this will eventually be moved over to the Gringoes.com domain as well.

(Apologies for posting this in bits, but it’s to overcome the database space allocation issues.)

It will most likely be dependent on the Site Designer approving your account, so give it a few hours.

Apparently the registration page is already being bombarded by spammers, hence the additional email step.

Do you have an estimate on how long it will be before the migration will be complete and the forum is in the permanent end state?

I hope the new site becomes a success. I find it a little tricky right now, but I guess that may be expected while it is being developed.
Others may already know this but when you register if you enter your real name on the first registration box that asks for you to enter your name, that is how you will appear to others. I say this because as I look at the “groups” link I see many registrants as real names rather than the user names I am use to seeing on this forum. If this is not your intent, you may want to double check your profile and how you appear on the forum.

    @SteelRat,
Is it possible to have a “Latest Forum Posts” table added to the new forum (similar to the one found on this site)?

Apparently it will be quite an undertaking, and I guess there’s even a possibility the Site Designer won’t be able to do it.

Have you guys just tried a general dump and restore on this database? That should free up a lot of space on it’s own.

SR, great to hear aboutthe impending move and improvement! Yet I too would like to know asandrewfroboy asked on the first post on the new site, what will bemigrated over? Please tell me we won’t be starting from scratch. Noarchives to search, meaning no search function, meaning questionslike “How do I get a CPF?” will need to be answered all overagain, ad infinitum…? (end pt1)

(pt 2) Some threads, likemolendinar’s A-Z guide on how to naturalize are way too valuable tolose! And as for registering one’s user name, will previouslysuspended users have those names once again up for grabs (for anyoneto register)?! Will one’s present user name still show original datejoined, or does everyone start out with 2015? Also as Andrewqueried, will the number of posts the forum member made transfer overto the new forum, or does everyone start out at zero?

I have no problem registering and accessing the new site after I clicked on the email sent to me after I registered. I registered with a different user name. “Quemsabenada”.

If you want to change the name that appears with your posts, you can edit the name on your profile.

I registered the new site yesterday, and I still do not have access.

BTW…As you are in the design phase of the new site, consider the excess onomatopoeia of all the “o’s” in the logo: oes…os…o…Oh?
For better effect, drop the “pros” and simply retain “…on the go.” Many of the visitors might not be or feel like “pros.”
    good luck Steel Rat
