I got married in 2013 in Brazil to a Brazilian guy. I didn’t change my name (he did :P) and I never did anything in the US about it. Am I automatically considered married there, or do I have to register it (don’t even know if this thing exists there) or something? For example, if a document asks for my marital status in the US, am I legally still single there until I register the marriage? Am I required to do this?

when i married abroad I registered my marriage in the consulate (in this case in Japan) and that was official enough for green card, etc. I suppose you don`t have to do anything but it may come and bite you later if you don’t. I would email the consulate to be sure.3casas2015-02-15 08:48:19
