Is this site not moderated any more? Post after post by new members advertising real and fake documents and currency. Is this what gringoes.com has become?

Some of the adverts link to a website offering documentation services – though how they can give you “genuine” fake documents is beyond me – but if you look at the list of information they need from you it is sufficient to completely steal your identity.
I would advise everyone to steer clear and message the admin to block these scammers.

I don’t think it is that actively moderated these days, as judging by the Facebook page, that is more than a full time job!

The owner of this place does not seem to be interested in applying proper anti-spam technologies.

I joined the Facebook page, but eventually gave up – every post ends up as an insult-fest, and there appear to be too many who have no interest or affiliation with Brazil who simply want to troll the posts. Most seem to end up saying “gringo go home!” LOL

ZambeziDave: Yes, it’s moderated. Did you report the posts as requested in the House Rules?

WilliButz: We use StopForumSpam, as part of this forum’s “technologies”, but it’s a constant battle.

Yes, SR, I report every one I see – but worry about being a “pain in the ass”! I just wish I could find a way to report them to some international police authority, but my attempts end up filling in online forms and they appear to be only if you have already been conned/cheated, and not reporting a fraudster, or someone selling illicit documentation! I would have thought that they would appreciate the reports, but seem to get nowhere.

I appreciate that you are a busy man, and cannot always monitor here 24/7 (LOL) and have noted that the posts get taken down soon after reporting to you!

Don’t worry at all about being a “pain in the ass”. It might be useful just to drop a reply that it’s been reported, which saves a barrage of emails of people reporting the same thing. And thanks for reporting.

Worth keeping the forum ticking over, because when the Facebook page meltdown finally comes, probably with a spectacular law suit or something (judging by the way things get somewhat overheated there) then I think the traditional forum approach will come good again. The instant-fix gratification of a FB post has its pros and cons, and it’s also less usable as a resource than a forum is.
