Looking for a Divorce Lawyer with international experience that I can consult with about my rights for child custody. Does anyone have any references?

Sven from this very forum. Where are you Sven?

Search this name and see if he left an e-mail address in his profile. He has not been posting much as of late.

He is Dutch but has lived here for around a million years and passed the OAB so he is legal lawyer here in Brazil. He has impeccable English. I would highly recommend you speak with him.

You might be able to make contact via the Gringos Facebook page, which he frequents quite often.

Be forewarned that these are not “references” but mere internet thumbs up for threads of a formerly frequent poster on this forum.
With all due respect, the forum member in question is a “newbie” lawyer without any previous legal experience here or abroad, and moreover was not infrequently proven wrong on various legal points on this very forum.
You would be well-served to do your own due diligence and seek out a seasoned, well-connected lawyer with verifiable and real-world references.

i agree with ferrar. go with a seasoned lawyer not some belligerent poster who is always running his mouth.

“…seasoned lawyers…due diligence to find one.” Ha!!! This advice sounds easy, but in fact is very problematic.

During the time I have been in Brasil I have been involved in more than 20 processes of various types, and I’ve had, and still have, contacts with all sorts of lawyers, including top dog Sampa legal firms to good ole boy country types. In my experience, a “seasoned” lawyer is just a likely to make mistakes, give bad service or charge you a lot of money without results as any other “type” of lawyer. In reality, success in court is usually more a matter of the merit of your case, the venue of the forum and the judge on the case. A “good” lawyer is important, but they come in all flavors…just like people in general.
In reality and depending on the case, I would rather be represented by a new law firm who is responsive and building business, than by some “seasoned” lawyer who is churning money off their name. Overall, I’ve seen better results from selecting methodical, small time lawyers with personal guts rather than big time lawyers who say they know it all.
This is not a solicitation for Van’t Veer, rather merely objectivity in what I know to be true from my own experiences in Brasil. The legal process here is quite convoluted, and lawyers are certainly part of this trap. When seeking legal council, pick the person, not the name.

The last two “posters” are (is) (a) troll(s) who bother this forum. Pay no heed.
