hi all, i want to make a money transfer to my wive’s account [ caixa, brazil ] from UAE . any idea about how much the receivers bank gonna charge for the transaction? what info i got by digging this forum is, Caixa Economica charges : 1% of amount and max. of 100. bank charge this in USD or in reais ? anybody have hands on experience recently about this ? i want to send 10000 reais [2850 USD approximately] we already tried to get info from the bank caixa. but they have no idea about how much will be the charges from their end [ they can only say this once the fund arrives in caixa !!! ]. western union charges 400 reais for this transaction that is too much for me. so bank wire transfer is the option. but will be nice to know if the bank charges less than western union . help please. thanks

Try posting your problems only once.Posting the same on many threads will not make your problem go away any quicker.Just some advise…!

Try xoom.com which charges a lot less less in fees than WU for this sort of thing.
Or, to get better rates on the exchange itself, deal directly with some of us here on the forum if you are willing to trust your counterparty. (Forum user “mmaser” has been coordinating some of the matchmaking and from personal succesful experience I can vouch for his integrity.)

so here is what happened. Transfer made to caixa via bank to bank wire-transfer and it was successful fast and efficient. with a “not so bad ” exchange rate. but much better compared to Western union insane fee. transfer completed within 48 hours direct to caixa account [ no branch visit, no calls made to manager , no questions asked. but 10 k reais only] thanks for all feedbacks .

Would be nice to know what the cost was so that we have some kind of a comparison for future reference.

IOF 36,72 reais TAX OF OPERATION 96,61 reais. Sent 2800 USD received in caixa 9520 reais after discounting
Same amount with western union would cost a transaction charge of 450 reais on my end And IOF EXTRA FROM RECEIVERS END.

Nice! Is BdB about the same? Anybody try an amount under $5000 to BdB?
