If you can post any errors you get here. We’re investigating…

OK in an attempt to be constructive. I received the identical error that G.S originally reported under the “hacker” spam thread, innumerable times, when attempting to respond to the Abbot regarding his query about whether or not to consider investing in NTN-Bs. After repeated attempts, I gave up.

All right, my feedback – I don’t see the 2 new posts from Esprit today in the forum re. Exchange rate predictions but I got them via email notification .
Suggestion – start a brand new topic link with the same topic and see if it will post.
Hope too it ll get fixed soon like later today, righ SteelRat?

FanC. Yes, I did try to post today however both attempts failed in the usual way and so I deleted the ghost remnants.

SteelRat: It seems that short posts take, those comprised of just a few sentences. Yet something of a couple of paragraphs, or longer, receives the error message Miguel posted.

Microsoft message that gringoes ‘PRIMARY’ filegroup is full.
August 13, 2011 at 5:08 pm #276955
Perhaps we’ll only be allowed a limited amount of characters per post in future – that leaves me out.
August 13, 2011 at 5:35 pm #276956
I would suggest, that if space needs to be created on the server, to purge all the posts in the Vent Frustrations thread, as well as the Romance thread, since each post seems to consume half a page. However, some of your best sarcasm can be found there Esprit. Maybe get a bigger server then?

That Microsoft message continues: Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in thefilegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth onfor existing files in the filegroup.

I can immediately think of at least a dozen sock puppets that have been suspended. Perhaps some space could be obtained by deleting the plethora of comments they have left on here, which have zero worth to anyone. Then move on to the suspended trolls….

SR, for what it’s worth…. In the More Protests thread (Off Topic category), I attempted to insert a photo in a post, but wouldn’t take. My one sentence post and a hyperlink took. I posted again the photo, which took in the second post. ‘Length’ seems to be an issue.

It always is!

I got hit by the bug! I tried to respond to the sales chap looking for work in Minas Gerais. Wasn’t even a long message by any means. I got the Error Message.

Yes, size matters (or so she said last night.)
August 19, 2011 at 4:55 am #277088
Allowable post/reply length seems to be inconsistent. The issue has been raised with the site owner, I’m waiting for a response.

Same here. I posted a short message earlier today that I was not having a problem. However, when I attempted to post a longer message about the protests, I received the noted error message.
August 20, 2011 at 4:43 pm #277113
I’ve not had a problem yet, other than the usual ones related to my slightly dodgy load-balancing setup…
August 20, 2011 at 4:43 pm #277114
…and just to be odd, it posted first time, without problem, when I have taken to copying what I post so I dont have to re-write it a second time around.

The issue is with the size of the database, and it’s not easy to resolve because it could require some programming work and/or moving to a new host. I’ll update when I know more.
August 21, 2011 at 12:06 am #277120
The geeky side of me says he’s hosting on 3essentials, with a ms sql db. They have lots of upgrade plans here, upto about $45/month for a 40gb site. This shouldn’t be a huge upgrade issue… More than likely, someone just needs to run something like ccleaner on that server and nuke all the unnecessary crap that has probably accumulated.
August 21, 2011 at 2:34 am #277121
They have a limit of 500MB for the SQL database. Server install is old also, and it all needs updating. This is complicated by the fact the site is being updated anyway and being moved to a new host.
August 21, 2011 at 1:23 pm #277126
They claim on their site you can have up to 10gb, there should be a pretty simple solution here!
Other solution would be to ask people to delete their PM’s and other non essential mails. Or doing a search for clearly spam posts and just deleting them in bulk.
Third option would be to actually dump and restore the db, 500mb wouldn’t take long and it would clean up all the holes that are currently in the db.
That will give you enough breathing room most likely.

So after all this time, the problem still isn’t resolved?! IMHO, dot-br needs to be added to gringoes.com; the site now is very brasilian. Pode deixar….
