Im nearing a gringo meltdown/douchebag moment! I am wakened every morning at 4:45am to "nossa nossa assim voce me mata" by the cowboy builders on the site beside us. They play this godforsaken piece of brazilian excuse for music on a loop for hours, ensuring sleep depravation to anyone who lives within 2 blocks! They also live in the construction so it NEVER stops!
After 3/4 hours of forro i assume most gringos would be on edge (without alcohol to numb the hearing). And this particular song seems to be flavor of the feckin month in Brazil right now and is the crowning turd in the turdpile of brazilian music in general!!
I have 6 more weeks of this living hell before the other brazilian cowboy builders complete the job on our apartment, which was due to be finished 2 weeks before xmas!!
I have attempted revenge by bombarding them with radiohead and the smiths at full pelt, but they seem immune to it!
I know i cant change it, i know im wasting my time venting about it, but its doing my head in!!! Anyone got any good revenge suggestions? even just to humour me or make me feel better?
Sorry but I needed a sleep depraved rant!!!!!!

earplugs and white noise generators (simplynoise.com is my favorite, and free) are the only way i get my work done since our neighbor's teenage son got a super amp in his picape.... he leaves it on and it plays, well, i don't know what the hell it is he plays but it ain't music. As for revenge, it doesn't work. The only thing you can do is try to drown it out. I'm surprised The Smiths at volume 11 didn't make them go kill themselves. Maybe you need to try Morrisey's later works? Celine Dion? (that would make ME kill myself). Personally I tend to blast opera or Tchaikovsky when my neighbors play 70s soft rock or that evangelical crap.

I gave them "every day is like sunday" "Heaven knows im miserable now" and "girlfriend in a coma" at it was at full throttle!! I doubt they posess the intelligence or motivation to kill themselves, but I like the look of the noise generators, better option than an AK47 !! Thanks!!

Revenge? I enjoy throwing eggs. If you have a good lookout onto the street, egg them as they come home. Don't do it every day. Just sporadically.
You could just blast something way worse than music, like the sound of a baby crying on a loop. That has been scientifically proven to generate rage in many people.

Like the egg idea, especially if the egg has been sunning itself for a few days prior to "launch"
As for noise retaliation ive decided such action is futile, people here are just immune to noise.....As I type they seem to be having a party tonight, deafening!! A quick drive to extra to buy some eggs is in order i feel!!!

Play loud recordings of bagpipes--preferably the Scottish variety.
If you want to get serious, and spend a little money, you can buy an alarm siren, power supply, remote control and remote control switcher. Get somebody at a local alarm store to put together a device from those components that allows you to set off the siren by tapping the appropriate remote control button. When the music starts, turn the siren on, When the music stops, turn the siren off. You will have to plug it in somewhere, but you can use a long length of wire to position the siren close to their location.
Trouble is, it will wake your neighbours as well.

I've thrown eggs at beeping cars, men building apartment blocks, men cutting trees, people having parties in the condo next door, school graduation ceremonies. Eventually I just moved out of the area.

So it began at 7am this morning with my windows rattling and my ears in danger of exploding. 8 sun matured eggs launched with zero effect! Still going strong, a brief powercut gave a 20 window to breathe. We have decided to go to Pipa for the next 5 weekends to get away! I officially hate Forro!!!

Why Pipa?
The beach sucks with it's little lagoon that functions as a public toilet.
But still better than Natal I guess.

Why not pipa? We are looking at buying a beach house there at the end of summer. It seems that your opinion of it would represent a minority given the amount of people that it attracts? But hey, it's your opinion! BTW you could live there on a lot less than $R17k too

Well, I don't like people that much (thats why I live in sampa )
Miss it up north though.
If I could land a R$5k job there I'd go in a spiff.

Forro is the devils music. I leave Pernambuco every June when the festival of Sao Joao takes place. Hicks of all sorts blast out forro for a month straight with no shame. It is hell and if God existed he'd agree.

Forro sounds to me like "Country Doof Doof" it is so damn repetitive.

There is another genre of music here that sorta constitutes country. The 2 guys, 1 wears a cowboy hat for that country/brokeback mountain feel whilst the other looks normal? There are dozens of such cack acts in Brasil it seems! All of these guys look like they are more than "just good friends" IMO.

There's a bar across the street which in and of itself is not so bad, but on Sat and Sunday, doofus pulls up, opens his hatch back and shows off his som. The construction store up the street sells high powered air rifles which don't make much sound when fired and comes with a scope...just saying.

This was my first thought, one can aquire a powerful air rifle for as little as $R300, which was attractive. But I dont have a target as the sound system is not in sight. Also my fear would be that in my rage at 4am I may open fire on anything that moves......i decided against Eggs are the limit

Forro is evil. The Brazilian sertanejo is just as bad. I second the rotten eggs idea. Here are some more evil ideas.
Last time I lived in SP, I lived in Pinheiros and there was a 24-hr pool hall/karoake bar 3 houses away from me. I lived on the 16th floor and the sound traveled upwards. So, drunk douchebags singing sertanejo karoake at 3 am on Tuesday? I was flaming pissed. tried white noise. No luck.
I used rotten eggs, rotten tomatoes and the ultimate: tuna bombs. I saved all of the juice from my canned tuna fish and stuck it in balloons w/ some vinegar. Launched a few of them from 16 floors up and when they hit, that junk splattered all over the place. It got quiet quickly.
Good luck!

Some lady who walks her obnoxious dog keeps standing outside my window and talking to some other lady with an obnoxious dog.
The two dogs bark for 15 minutes straight.
Last time I launched 3 eggs at her from two windows. She had no idea what was happening.

Been there, done that LOL. A few years ago my neighbour acquired a rooster. It lasted about a month, until many of us complained. Not sure whether they got rid of it or one of the other neighbours did it for them. Now I am awakened only by loud barking dogs all night

So, after weeks of forro hell, my problem appears to be over! Had a "few" beers*** with the site foreman, who we happened across in a bar on sunday. Explained how nobody in our building can sleep yadda yadda, low and behold, hes horrifed and shocked?? It never occured to them that others might be suffering! (you have to love the self awareness of this place). So after many beers we agreed on a forro ban until 11am every day! I didnt want to post too soon but its 2 days now with NO forro at all! Gringo bliss!
