R$ 17.215,08 anually.= in 2010. But if you're not actually employed with a CNPJ reporting that they are paying you, for example... heck... you only made 17 thousand, right? Just don't buy the car in your name. kkk

This is salary - personal earnings. If you own a business, hence a CNPJ, it's a whole other ball game.

Just to clarify, I am working freelance on line, not my own business, but freelance working for myself. Is it still R$17,250 a year without having to pay tax?
Thanks in advance.

If you work as an autonomous and you give reciepts to your clients, than they will use your CPF and indicate these payments to you. If you say you make 17K a year, but you give out receipts for 50K you may have a problem.

but you could try to claim that you had 33K in expenses, receipts only prove earnings, not profit, I would hope you are only paying taxes on profit and not revenue

as an autonomous you can only claim those discounts that are allowed on your tax return. As an autonomous you pay over revenue and not profit.

but as an autonomo, other rules apply. they should be filling out a "Carné Leão" monthly.

this holds true also for those renting out properties.

If you work for companies they will want (need) reciepts for their tax. You'll have to register as an autonomous and that would be at the state secretaria de fazenda.
