hey folks,
so, i've overstayed my tourist visa for a while now. was planning on getting married (still an option), but i'd really rather not. is there no sort of work visa available? i've been working as an architect (discreetly) for a year now. the head architect wants me to be a partner... is there any way to become legal outside of marrying my girlfriend? please say yes... cheers |

While you are still in Brazil? I don´t think so. ![]()
A partner? That doesn´t have to mean you need a work visa. Try the investor visa, if you have R$ 150,000. But still I´m not sure if you can legalize your status without leaving Brazil. In order to become a partner (sócio) of a Brazilian company you don´t need a work visa. I guess even on a tourist visa you can become a sócio. If you don´t have permanent residence in Brazil, as a foreigner you can´t be the responsable partner of the company. There has to be another partner who´s Brazilian or a foreigner with permanência. Or you have to have a responsable manager with all necessary POA to act in all leagal matters in your name. But still, I´m not sure if the guy really wants you as a partner or just as an employee. In that case he or better his company has to apply for the work authorization, once aproved you may apply for a visa based on the work authorization. Meaning you have to leave Brazil. Even if you get married or have a child with Brazilian citizenship with your gf, there is still the chance the PF require you to leave Brazil and apply from outside for a new re entry visa. ![]() ![]() |

thanks for the advice Mineiro!
yeah, I'm not really concerned about the status of my work relationship in terms of becoming a 'socio'. just making the point that my job is very secure and my partner/boss (Brazilian) would help out in anyway possible to ensure that I stay. I'm really just curious about work visa possibilities. (i don't have R$150,000). If anybody has any experience with this or can point me in the right direction to find out more... For example, I moved to London 10 years ago (i'm american) on a tourist visa, ended up getting a job/work visa and eventually eligible for permanent status and even a british passport. We've actually begun the marriage process with the Cartorio and our lawyer. They haven't mentioned me having to leave and re-enter, but that would be fine. Just got some cold feet :) Looking at all of my options. Cheers! |

If they are willing to sponsor you for a work visa, I believe your problems are solved. |
