I would say £2000 a month is more than enough, but it very much depends on where and how you live. For example, in the heart of Sao Paulo's uber rich district (say Jardins) things get expensive. Expect to pay £1000+ a month rent with £250+ condominiums (I'm sure you can pay as much as you want if you've got the dough). Eat at fancy restaurants every night and I'm sure you can blow £5000 a month. Living elsewhere rents can drop to £100 or less, with proportionate drop in the class of area. Again using SP as an example, you can probably get a middle class place somewhere in the middle of the two, for £500 a month (say Pinheiros... Moema). In the North-East of Brazil things generally get cheaper. It depends if you're after beaches and sun, or pollution and cities

There were some previous threads on cost of living, and I remember Quem et al had some great replies with lots of data. I recommend searching back.

Sure, if you're cooking for yourself, and living frugally you can get by with "muito pouco" in Brazil. On the other hand if you pick a classy apartment in the trendy districts of Sampa, eat at the best restaurants etc. etc. you can spend far more than any average UK or USA salary.

Well the great thing about here is pick your restaurants carefully and you don't pay a lot. I can pay 5 times as much for equivalent types of food in the UK, and it's nowhere near as good.

5,000L's per month in Brasil? Yes, turning 50, that will do more than fine. I generally budget about 1,000CAN per month when I am there, and usually have change left over...but I usually stay in the East (poorer area of SP)

We generally don't drive our rental car everywhere in the city (we take subways downtown etc,) but spend time out on the coast as well.

Depending on your lifestyle and other factors like neighborhood, drinking habits, entertainment...you can wind up spending as if you lived in Manhatten, because the choices are there.

When I'm in SP, I feel like living simply because there is so much poverty and struggles there as it is, and I just want to do my very small part in downplaying the 'rich gringo' personna.

Brasil is a beautiful country with kind people. It can be enjoyed on any budget imo.

5000 dollars a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, so i dont live in SP or any big city but hey, 5000 dollars a month?

Take 1 large house, 2 large dogs, 1 live in maid, a guy who does the pool 3 time s a week (Including chemicals), a gardener once a month, gasoline and insurance for a Chevy S10-4.3 liter, electricity, gas, health insurance, VERY good living, BBQ,s, beer, wine etc. Eating out twice a week, and clothes, diapers etc for a 2 1/2 year old child.......

We never spend more than 2000 dollars a month, usually around 1300-1600............
Seriousley, we could trim these costs down to a thousand or less if we wanted to.

CAPTN, my hat off to you if your managing on less, maybe i drink more than you???

I guess the North East coast is the place to be?
Big round of applause for us CAPTN....

As for the age difference, a fifty, sixty, seventy year old with his own place, money etc will obviousley find a partner here, of course he will NEVER know why she is with him...........you just have to use all of the knowledge gained in your 50 years to pick the right one, dont give too much, dont expect too much, one thing is to let her know your not taking her out of Brazil, if she is happy you will know she is happy, if it doesnt work out, move on, try again............do you want a full time partner, maybe just play the field for a while, see what position you feel comfortable in!!!!

Can i just say i LOVE this Forum, never a dull moment!!!

Later people..xx

I don't know if this will help now but my impression of brazil was that moderate age differences are fine but large age differences might not work.

Probably if he settles for 35-40 year olds, it should not be too hard. 18 year olds are more difficult

Some age difference is normal in Brazil, but 20 vs 50 is a bit much. 35 vs 50 is probably easy.

Brazilians want to have fun, sex, great bodies. So if he were a Mick Jagger, a pro golfer or so, he would have better chances. And if you are like some gringos who are not in shape and manners of Attila the Hun forget getting any chica.

From what I understand, Thailand, Russia and Philippines are countries where he would have a better chance of finding a lady in her early 20's. There the girls are desperate to land a foreigner, and are less choosy in terms of physical attributes.

the only way to snatch a 20 yr old is if shes a pro or if you have money, there is no major problem. You will get laid. But young, cute and handsome guys will get laid more, and laid with more passion.

Just my 2 pence worth

hi over 50, my fiancee arrived in Texas on 6/29/06. we met near Rio a little over a year ago, thru a good friend of mine that live in Brasil.she is 24 yrs old and I am 44 yrs old.I am in good shape(not a body builder shape) and take care of myself.I am not a millionaire, movie star, sports star etc..what I am,is honest and I am true to my feelings.I really believe that just like anywhere in the world, you have to take the time(show the respect)to get to know someone.since I met my fiancee,we have either talked or emailed each other everyday.we told each other what we wanted out of the future and we just really hit it off.if you thing you can come to brasil, looking like a beached whale and met/marry a hot young girl.I think you are in for a rude surprise.you may get a hooker to marry you but a nice girl no.Brasil is a great place but people are people. If you don't show the effort to improve yourself, why would anyone want you.I was you the best of luck,Brasil is a fun and nice place to visit. It would be so much better of if Americans/tourist stopped coming there to try and get laid.the problem is that's what alot of people put out about Brasil and they nev er know the real Brasil or people. Hi, russell,caPT,nina, mac and hityl hope you are all good.I miss Brasil but at least I have my fiancee here(my surfer girl).
