![]() Topic: Yet another Visa QuestionPosted: 20 July 2009 at 16:40 |

I arrived overland into Brazil, and I was only given 30 days. Today I tried to get an extension at the FP, but as I do not speak Portugese, and the FP official, English, we did not get very far, The FP official gave me a form, and a code COD. and mentioned that I should go to the Gov.br web site to optain a Bill for making a bank paymentof R$67,00 for overstaying by 2 days!. The web site, of course does not have an english option, so again I came to a full stop.
Now my question is, if I don´t bother to get a visa Extension, but leave within the next month, would there be a problem, as I believe that British Citizens are allowed 90 days upon entry.

Too late for an extension if you have passed the thirty days granted at entry.
You should go to the airport a few days before your planned exit and pay your fine in advance. They will print up the guia "guide" for you and tell you where to go to pay. Casa Loterica or Banco do Brasil at the airport. THey will calculate your fine or "multa," at 8 reias and change per day so an extra 30 days is about 260 reais of multa. Are you sure the 67 reais wasn't the extension fee? The Federal Police Estrangeiros is where you will be helped. Other option is to do nothing and play dumb at exit. They might not care and let you slip away since as you say "Brits get 90." Act surpised when they inform you you owe 260 reais, but have the money ready in cash to pay on the spot. Good Luck. I was in a similar spot last month. Once you pay in advance your fine you have eight days to leave the country. Brazil is getting tough on tourists because their own people are having a rough time with immigration in Europe and the States. Here's a chap with a visa overstay problem at the Rio airport. ![]() "Yes, I want to pay the multa! (fine) I told you the money is in the front left pocket! Careful with that stick, I hope to have a family some day!" Edited by bobbyitaparica - 20 July 2009 at 22:20 |

I just got back from the airport the other day and 67 reais is the price of the extension fee.I thought It would have been free, if I had known I'd have gone on a little trip and got a new stamp on the way back in. ![]() |

Exactly !
So just go to :
And fill out the form with your name, address and choose the code explained above.
Under
Then you create and print the payment slip, go to any bank and pay the fee. Then go back to the PF and file for your extention.

So I can extend my visa even after the original allotment has expired?
I've overstayed my 90 day visa for about 20 days, and I'd like to extend if possible. :-\ |

No, you have to extend within the timeframe of your intitial prazo (period of leave to enter). If you have spent less than 180 days in Brazil, you can leave and re-enter where you will be given a further 70 days (assuming you leave today) but having overstayed there is no guarantee that you will be permitted immediate re-entry. You will also be fined for the 20 day overstay.

![]() As MoL already said, you have to file for the extention while your first visa is still valid. Usually the PF Accepts application to extend the tourist visa a week before the visa expires. Once it´s expired, even if just for 1 day, they don´t extend it anymore, because you´re not legal anymore in Brazil. ![]() |

If you want to be legal you have to pay your fine, leave Brazil and re-enter as MOL said.
Best Luck!!! |
