**** In July 2008 I sent a box (size 24x27x24 inches) with a computer. This was a Christmas present for my son. In November the box was delivered nearly empty and sealed by the company with a black nylon strap. When received it, did not notice anything because the box seems to be securely closed. Later, when opened it, the box was very light and had been cut by the bottom and its contents had disappeared. Once I got the news, called the BR Courier. I was asked to fill out a insurance form. A week later, I called again and was informed that Brasil Courier refused to be liable. Edited by Miami Biz - 26 January 2012 at 16:45 |

Sorry to hear about your lost items.
This is why these companies offer optional insurance (at an added cost). Some people do not opt for it either because they think this calls attention to the value of the carton or they do not wish to spend more money. A lot of people do not list the contents truthfully either, trying to make an end run around Brazilian law or not call attention to full value.
This type of robbery has been a sporadic problem with all of even the larger carriers who provide this service. Anyone shipping by this method is well advised to buy the optional insurance, clearly and honestly list the items, pack the carton well (at least one friend has taken to completely covering every inch of the carton in tape, simulating the plastic wrapping service that some airports have, so it is obvious if the seal is broken), and checking the contents thoroughly at the other end before signing any documents.

That´s not true, the best option is always a good TRANSPORT INSURANCE that will cover loss and damages. ![]() Even DHL is not perfect and the bigger the company is the bigger the chances packages get lost or missplaced. ![]() ![]() |

We're talking about U$50, people, insurance on the maximum insurable contents of U$1500 (at least the last time I sent a carton recently) and a shipping cost of U$150-175 (depending on company used) for a carton that holds a 27" TV (that the guys that sell them at the truck rental place in my largely Brazilian community refer to as "the Brazil box" |
