Wow, wow wait a minute 690 EUR a month I don't belive it. I would have believe if working for a company in Pernambuco. Take a look for example at Santa Catarina. A friend of mine is working for Sadia in chapeco (SC), and believe me his earnings are really good .... I am talking about way over 1000 EUR. With some sort of degree from faculty of course. And even more as far as I know Sadia is a brazilian company.

Something doesn`t make sense here. If that`s the salary of a doctor, how come that I pay (well Unidonto does) 250R$ for a tooth filing? Do dentist here earn more than doctors?

R$ 250 for a tooth filling ??? Is that a diamond tooth filling?

I don't know much about the salaries of medics, but afik, SUS pays something like R$ 1200 for a 24 hour "plantão" twice a month.

Sounds quite low though as the average medical study costs R$ 130K if attending a private university (which is the case for most).

Okay not to get to astray from main topic, the one HR site I know that seems to be promising is www.vagas.com.br

Site is totaly free, I didn't had much luck due to lack of permanent visa. But if you have right to work in Brasil, just sign up and start using the site.

Yeah well what can I say, finding job is still hard. This site didn't work for me either, I guess you just have to keep trying. Or you can try CATCHO but it's also sh*t as far as I have heard.

The dentist himself doesn't make that much, unless he owns the business.  There's the cost of running the surgery, which can be apportioned pro-rata to work carried out, the cost of staff like receptionists, dentists assistant, tax materials etc.  The poor dentist is often not rolling in it.

Just thought about this thread again.

First of all, yes, seems impossible for me to get into med school here as I will likely never master Portuguese literature...

Seems like being a business owner is the way to go in Brazil huh?

Another strange thing I've found is that the guy who runs the acai stand by the metro, makes his own hours, sits around serving sandwiches and acai, he pulls in about 1500/month on 8 hrs/day. So why are so many people in Rio working for nothing if they can just pick up and get an acai stand? What am I missing here?? He claims that most people 'love to have a boss' and that they are too scared to do something on their own.

Thoughts?

A lot of crappy jobs have benefits ... maybe lunch, bus fare, sometimes a health plan, at least the employer share of INSS is paid. Low paid concursado employment with the government is very secure; you can pretty much count on a paycheck for the rest of your life.

You can make good money with selling acai and the other healthy food I guess. In JP centre is a place called amazonia. Every time we go there its full with people.
I know that many people are scared to do something on their own.
This is not a tyical brasilian thing. In holland its the same.
