So when I am married I then need to apply for a permanent Visa, how long does it take to obtain all the paperwork etc? Does anybody know of a link which tells me exactly the documents that I need.

That depends pretty much on you!

I recomend to visit the PF already before the wedding. Ask for the complete document list and the application form. So you´ll be able to use the time to study the application form and get all the documents that are listed on the list.

Usually you need your passport, an authenticated xerox of ALL pages of your passport, wedding certificate, Police Record from you home country, all foreign documents must be legalized by the responsable Brazilian Conulate in the UK and the translated by a sworn translator, whaether in the UK (incl. authentication of tthe translation by the braz. consulate) or in Brazil. Besides that you and your wife must fill out the application form and and sign it.

Before you go to the PF to file for the permanent visa, create and print out the payment slip for the application fee (R$ 102,-) and pay it at any bank, this will save you another trip to the PF, because they´ll only accept the application if the fee´s paid!:

GOOD LUCK!

FYI - I've just spoken to the British Consulate here, the current cost for obtaining the certificate of non-impediment is R$221 . It can bone done same day.

It seems a bit pricey for a peice of paper eh!

If you see it only as a piece of paper then yes, I would say that you have been ripped off and could have got another sheet of A4 210 x 297 from elsewhere for much less.

True indeed!!! Of course I realise the importance of the document though.

I once saw an artist exhibiting blank canvases, I think that was a true rip-off !
