![]() Topic: Things to bring!Posted: 17 September 2007 at 12:58 |

Hi all,
My D-Day is coming in about 2 weeks! I'm getting ready to pack my bags for my move to Brazil. I was just wondering if anybody has moved from the UK (or anywhere else) and really wished they had remembered to pack that one thing, that essential item, what was it? What one item would you make sure you bring with you next time? e.g. something you can't find in Brasil. D |

I can give you two lists depending on how you are shipping. Are you talking about accompanied luggage on an airline or are you talking about filling a sea-container with your (tax free) personal effects as person moving to Brazil on a permanent visa?

Based on value and and lack of availability here:
A new laptop and digital camera and iPod: (sell you current ones on ebay and buy the latest spec models) An Oral B electric toothbrush with spare heads A year's supply of daily-use contact lenses Twinnings fruit fusion teas (4 boxes) Banana Republic (or Gap) ribbed fitted cotton T-shirts (with 5% lycra) 10 Black, 10 White. Marin 'Point Reyes' Urban bicycle - carried in a bike bag used for airline travel. Bodum Cafetiere 4 cup coffee press (with spare glass beaker) A Can Opener (the kind that you turn a handle with a little steel wheel) A decent heavy-based teflon skillet with lid (30cm). |

A ditto to all of those: particularly Cadbury's (or whatever your personal favourite sweets are) and Electronics
I have a list of travel items that I add to whenever I stray across something that would have proven very useful, but it's too personal to be of any use I'm sure. |

Yes I'm going to be working at home (mostly). I think my girlfriend already has a WiFi router so that's ok. I'm half tempted to upgrade my iPod but I really should put the money to better uses ![]() Has anybody tried importing Cadbury's chocolate for gringoes yet!!?! ps - Interesting point about the Can opener, do they not have that sort over there? You would do a lot of searching to find one - and then it would be really bad quality and break after a few days (like most goods here). Brazilians open cans with a small metal plate that hooks over the rim and, using multiple cuts, makes a jagged serrated edge on the lid that takes your fingers off. It's rather like the P-38 army issue that you carry as part of your personal kit. Edited by nevergoingback - 17 September 2007 at 17:30 |
