Just had my stable union visa approved after 6 months! For those that have posted info and so on this topic thanks a lot etc etc.
OK, Anyone know what happens next? I think I have to go to Argentina to pic it up but how do I know it's ready? A Edited by andys29 - 17 May 2013 at 19:58 |

I think you have to wait for the status to be "publicado" on the MTE website. In my case, it took 10 days from "deferido" status to "publicado" status. I was told that the consulate you elected to pick up the visa will hold it for up to six months. Before you go to your elected consulate, fill out the online visa form from the SCEDV website and print out the completed application. Be careful about entering your parent's names--must match your birth certificate. Then you are ready to go to the consulate and pick it up and get it stamped in your passport (if you are American, be prepared to pay close to 400 dollars).
I picked mine up in Tokyo, but I had a bit of a struggle to get it from them. I don't think they ever had anyone--especially an American in Tokyo-- pick up an MTE approved permanent visa based on a stable union. They at first said I had to submit a criminal background check, my original civil union certificate, a birth certificate, etc. I kept telling them I am NOT applying, I am already approved, I am simply picking up. After much back and forth--with the consular vice council involved--I could get it just by showing a copy of my civil union certificate and a copy of my birth certificate. I doubt the Buenos Aires consulate will be as difficult as Tokyo was for me, but just in case, you might want to arm yourself with documents. I can't wait to be back in Brazil next month--then the fun of police registration begins! |

Also you should know that the DOU site is kind of a bitch to navigate and it's probably easier to go to the DOU and have one of the lackeys print one off. The guy here charged R$5 which was ok by me.
