Sven, if you are a US Citizen, but you don't want to be anymore, you have to pay a $450 fee to the US Government. I'm not kidding; this is for real.

Actually, it was this $450 fee that offended me the most because I didn't ask to be born in the US. The fee is there now, so what's next, they raise it to $10,000 to not be American anymore???

Sven, lemme tell you why I don't want to be American:
Unlike a Brazilian, who can apply money in any country, in the US, it is forbidden. It is illegal for a [foreign] financial services company to do business with a US citizen. IF they are brave enough to market to US citizens, they willl be sued and fined heavily. And with the new FATCA laws, Americans are being denied bank accounts in Europe. Where's next, Brasil? Sorry, but I'm not taking that risk.

In summary, we have to pay $450 to give up something we didn't even ask for.

I sympathise with all the views on here, i am here too arent i, so i had my reasons for leaving, they are probably mostly the direct opposite to yours though i believe, which is why so many Brits want to move to the US and do.
I got away from the communists and you got away from the republicans, i might be wrong though Wink

Dilma and the PT, Castro's red flag buddies and the country sliding into a never ending series of strikes. At Pau de Lima refinary in Pernambuco a PT/Petrobras refinary deal Lula made with Hugo Chavez, was projected to cost 2 billion dollars, now coming in at over 20 billion dollars. Strikers there burned a bunch of buses demanding wage increases. About a thousand just got pink slips and the situation is ugly as hell. Here in Brazil even the lazy paper pushers/under garment inspectors of the PF go on strike, as over 60 universities are shut down and hundreds of thousands of children have lost months of schooling due to the strikes. Hospitals are shutting down. And this is only the beginning.

Very much a boom bust economy, we've seen this show before. Brazil will wiggle through it. It always does.

This stuff again? I swear, I've known tax lawyers who didn't talk about the US tax laws as much as Sponge does!

Thats cheap mate. My country wants $900 plus legal expenses... but it doesnt want any taxes from me as long as I stay less than 183 uninterrupted days in its territory.
