I have decided to apply for naturalization, but am just a little apprehensive about the Portuguese test! Anyone care to share their experiences regarding this test, what form did it take, verbal written, a combination of both, what proficiency was required, any tips on preparation, when is the test taken on application or at a later date? Any advice and information would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. |

You are right to be aprehensive! This is a very complext test!
1) You need to be able to literally copy at least two sentences of a text; 2) You must be able to read two lines out loud 3) You must respond a silly question on part of the text There is almost no way not to pass. |

Just two sentences?! Man, I had to do two entire paragraphs! Yet once I'd made it through the the first paragraph, the PF guy handed me the text, and told me to copy it verbatim! ![]() I concur w/Sven, it would be difficult not to pass. |

I might bark, but I don't bite.

haha, I can't wait to take mine. What's funny is that I talk to those guys in Portuguese, but I guess it's just a formality.

Hm... how come you are waiting for your name to be published in DOU if you have not submitted the documents yet??? The test is NOT a formality. It will be seen by the MJ people who have never met you end will evaluate your portuguese on the basis of what you have written. Edited by Telleuno - 21 August 2012 at 01:42 |

Of course it is a formality. A person with CELPEBRAS on the advanced level has to take it. I was in my 8th semester of law school and I had to take it. All I had to do was literally copy two lines of text, and read two lines aloud. The reading aloud part won't make it to Brasilia, and I can assure you that my mom who doesn't speak a word of Portuguese could have copied both lines without error. |

I dont know what you are talking about. I was never asked to read aloud anything and copy any lines. I had to answer 3 questions related to the text I read (which I assume is standard) and write half a page on why I want to become a brazilian citizen. People who will evaluate it in Brasilia will know nothing of your CELPE BRAS (this one is useless indeed) and will judge based on what they see only. I personally saw 2 people who failed the test even at PF. |

Perhaps, as with all PF stuff, it varies by place.
Telleuno, where did this happen to you? OP, where would you be applying? |

SP Capital. The form was pre-printed with space for answers and half a page free for essay on citizenship. And as I said while I was waiting there 2 out of 4 people in front of me failed the test - one Chinese and one Argentinean. Edited by Telleuno - 21 August 2012 at 12:07 |
