![]() Topic: Green Thai curry in São Paulo?Posted: 19 August 2012 at 02:42 |
|
I am going to SP next week, and was thinking I should pick up some things while there.
Where would be the best place to shop for Thai food products? And address with link to Google maps would be nice. Preferrably a place that can be reached by metro. Yes, I know how to make it, but where I live, the ingredients are not available :-) Also, are there any good shops for Indian cuisine? I sometimes miss that food and it would be nice to have a place to go to buy the stuff needed to cook something up. |

For anything food related n São Paulo, the Mercado Municipal is a must.

Check out the various supermarkets in Liberdade too. There is a metro stop with the same name, so quite convenient. Though officially 'Japan town', you can find an assortment of Asian products there. Edited by Gringo.Floripa - 19 August 2012 at 11:30 |

I might bark, but I don't bite.

Right in front of the Liberdade metro station is a store called Towa, they've usually got some veg on the sidewalk in front of the store and some dishes on the doorway (don't confuse this with the other chinese market to the left which also has veg, they don't have thai stuff). they have thai stuff at the back of the store, go in and go straight to the back wall and you'll find green and red curry sauce (mae ploy) and some other goodies.

Absolutely fantastic!! Exactly what I was looking for :-) And to the others - yes, I know about the Mercado Municipal. Have been there and LOVE it! Liberdade as well. Will spend some more time there next time. This time it is just a quick trip. |

Went to SP this morning, and back again tonight. On my way to the bus station, all I had to do was jump off at Liberdade, walk out and the shop was just across from the entrance as you said :-)
And the Thai curry was - again as you said - all the way at the back. On the top shelf :-) Also grabbed some sweet chilli sauce while I was there. Regarding Indian stuff: I browsed quickly while I was there, and noticed there was something called Indian curry as well. So it might not be totally impossible :-) Thank you for the tip! Great place! (There was even a young guy working there that spoke English). |

Glad you found it!! as for it being as stated, let's just say I know the place really, really well. If you want a good wok for cooking Chinese stuff, that's the best place you'll find, BTW.
Indian curry, just a note, is a Japanese brand of curry for making Japanese-type curry (heavy on the sweet/salty gravy). It's OK in itself but definitely not Indian-style (sweet- might work for Jamaican stuff, but not india! but luckily we can get most of the spices for indian stuff separately) |

I'm thinking Gringo.Floripa and 3casas are really chefs in their primary line of work...?
On the opposite end of the gringo-spectrum, you have me: I'll eat lunch at a semi-greasy spoon restaurant for truckers and never complain... Edited by spongebob - 22 August 2012 at 14:35 |
