Thats what i thought, but why use it in friendly conversation? Seems strange to me, but i was looking at an old Dave Allen video the other day about the vagaries of the english language and I think this applies to Portuguese aswell.

You might want to take a look, funny guy. You'll find it on You Tube under Dave Allen and the Vagaries of the English Language.

Porra! Also can mean damn! Depends on usage. For example stub your toe, shout Porra! You team loses the game shout PORRA!!! (SH@@) Friend shows you new car. Porra (Wow)There are more uses but I'll let others jump in here. This is a strong hard word that also means "sperm."

Yes, i can understand that, but why abbreviate when talking with a friend, its seems very derogatory, i dont get it, anyway. I dont get Droga either really.

But thinking about it, when i get asked about english phrases, they can be tough to explain at times aswell. As Dave Allen explains in his video.

I have to admit that i am surprised, but as i have said before, things are very different down there in the South, i would be very surprised to see anything like that in the northern territories. But not saying that it doesnt happen or that they dont get to become the chef once in a while, that i would like to see.

With regards to an estrangeiro becoming a Politician, i thought you had to be born in Brazil to be able to do this or would Naturalization cover that possibility also?

I believe that to be President, you must be born here, but the rest of the offices are open r naturalized citizens. Sven will know this one..

Its very similar to the US system then, if your not born there, you cant be president. I remember Obama having afew doubters after he became president.

Wow, so the PF are now making $120,000(US) a year?

Well, perhaps that will alleviate some of the massive corruption which was leading to so many crimes

I remember when my husband and I went to Rio on our honeymoon, we were held up by the PF (something which scared my husband off Rio), and when I complained to a cousin who is highly placed in government I was told that there was little they could do to discipline them

"our police are very badly paid...what do you expect" was essentially the response I got from most people

So, the question is, now that they are better paid, is there less corruption?

That sure is a handsome salary

My cousins in Itamaraty make me regret not pursuing that path. Golden pension plan and salary ....

As my grandparents would always say: take a concurso and work for the government. Everything else is a risk

They were right, lol

Yes, as a Brasileiro Naturalizado you can't become president, minister in the supreme FEDERAL court (can become minister in the supreme court of JUSTICE), army/navy/airforçe officer or diplomat.

No reason why you couldn't be a "safado corrupto".
