Hello Everyone !

I am a Scandinavian seaman and I have visa permanencija.
I am considering moving to Brazil if I can find work in the offshore sector. I hold OOW unlimited (second mate) ticket,I also have DP basic.I can do basic communication in Portuguese.

Can anyone tell my how the job market is down there for one like me theese days ?

Thanks,

Vitoria

Ptic :

Too bad, but maybe you can answer a related question ?

I have seen some brazilian sites where they are looking for seamen like me and it seems like they are loking for english speaking people ingles fluente.
But when you start filling in information, it seems that they want to get paid to have my profile on their site.

Is this common in Brazil ?

If you have a permanent visa, they probably only will offer you a Brazilian CLT contract when working in Brazil as 2nd mate or ass. DPO.
Foreign or Brazlian company.
Get your "Carteira de Trabalho" - CTPS
If your STCW licence is OK, go to the nearest Distrito Naval - Capitania dos Portos and apply for a Brazilian seamanbook (eventualy endorsements).
Put your CV in OilCareers, Rigzone, foreign crewing agencies etc.
Send your CV directly to companies operating in the Brazilian offshore.

Don't know if you have Bosiet, AFF, Huet and so on certificates.
If a company is interested in you, they will send you somewhere to do these courses. Thy pay flights, courses, hotels and more.
Also medical, with a CLT contract you will have to do your medical in a clinic indicated by your boss. Even if you have a valid skandinavian medical.

Oil & Gas,

Thanks for your advice. No, I do not have Bosiet, etc since I have not been working in this segment before.

These certificates are expensive if one has to pay for them out of own pocket.

I am going to Brazil in the next months to
keeep my permanencija alive. I will then do as you suggest and see if I have any luck.

Thank and regards,

Vitoria

That's a Brazilian contract according the Brazilian labour laws.
Officially you (with permanent visa you are conidered a resident) are not allowed to have an expat (US$) contract. Must be CLT (R$).
"Officially" !

I've got some contacts in offshore industry (Brazil) if interested they won't do me any good now as I'm flying to aberdeen for job interview in few days. Fingers crossed with a bit of luck I as well might land in this industry.

Oil & gas :

OK, I think I get the picture. My stcw licence is ok.
I work today as a second mate in European waters. I wonder how long the process with brazil seamansbook and carto de trabalho might take ?

Ptic ;

Best luck to you in Aberdeen. Any contacts are of interest to me, it seems difficult to get the first opening.
