Can anyone tell me where I can buy British style Bacon? Smoked back rashers. I have never been to the US so I don't know if what you call bacon is the same thing.
I am sure I can get it from BIG or somewhere, if only I knew the phrase or expression.

Why not try a delicatessen, if you have one local, Italian and get some pancetta, pretty similar to smokey bacon.
There's an angel standing in the sun.

I've never seen it here, so your best bet is finding a butcher who will cut the meat accordingly. I find the bacon here to be too fatty, with very little meat content, but at the same time, I have never seen the concept of eating bacon here like we would in the UK, for breakfast, for example. Here is seems to be more something that is added to food to give flavour.

I don't know if its the same in the UK as in the US, but in the US we eat slices of bacon for breakfast, I know most international type hotels here have that sort of bacon for breakfast (although usually a bit thicker). I assume they probably are just slicing it themselves.

Depends on where you live, james. If for example you lived in SP you could find out the cut (not sure myself) then go to Mercado Municipal and ask one of the many delicatessens to see if they can cut it for you. They do sell bacon here but like most of the world it's nasty and no way near as good as back home.

Bacon in US is a normal breakfast item as in UK. In US they tend to use more streaky bacon but it is good.
I found bacon in Brazil to be more of a DIY thing in that you buy a piece of dried belly pork and slice it yourself, it is not a traditional thing as in UK/US.

Criminals are never very amusing. It's because they're failures. Those who make real money aren't counted as criminals. This is a class distinction, not an ethical problem.

"If you give a Brit some bacon, he'll need some HP sauce to go with it"!

My kids have a book called,"If you give a pig a pancake" the pig needs maplesyurp, then to be washed ect until at the end of the book the pig needs another pancake and the cycle begins all over again

....sorry, it just came to mind!

They sell ready sliced packet Bacon here now Cardi..Confused you obviously havent been here for a while.

They also used to sell HP sauce in Bom Preco, thanks to tio Sam, but they stopped as the locals didnt know what the hell it was.
I was in a restaurant the other day and i like Worcestshire Sauce (molho ingles) with the traditional brazilian culinary delights. They only had Soya Sauce (molho soja), so i asked them if they had any Molho ingles and they thought they were the same thing, so is there any hope i wonder, bless em.

I was in a queue in Bom Preco the other day and the guy in front had about ten bars of chocolate and as they do he put 5 bars on the side shelf, not wanting them, so i picked one out and it said Asda Milk Chocolate. I said where did you find this? he said, it looked exotic and was in a promo, so i tried some and got ten bars. I took the 5 bars he left on the side shelf and said thanks for finding them, i couldn't believe it, I said look, look its Asda chocolate, can you see, Robinson Crusoe style, its in english on the back, he looked at me in a strange way, so thanks Tio Sam you made my day, again. Smile

Well, thanks everyone, best answer seems to be to get a joint of smoked back or belly pork and ask for it to be thick sliced. I suppose if I want to go the whole hog (pun intended) I ought to smoke it myself too.

The other idea of asking an international hotel where they get it from is a great idea.

As for Asda - well that is the same as walmart/BIG/Bom preco, which is useful to know if you want cheap international stuff and the chance of some discount brit stuff. Says something about the international economy when they are exporting British chocolate to Brasil...

I gave my Brazilian niece some HP and she nearly threw up. Some things don't travel.
