Policia Federal goes on strike next Tuesday, August 7th. This means reduced staffing at immigration lines AND increased scrutiny. Operaçao Padrao means doing everything by the book. If you arrive in Brazil, make sure your papers are in order. They will ask all the questions they don't usually ask in order to slow down the immigration line. I remember coming through immigration once when they were on operaçao padrao. First gringo to arrive at each PF agent got interrogated big time. They pulled their immigration history and asked all kinds of questions. It's not that they suspect anything, they just want to create havoc in the airport and thus get attention. But they will spot things that they usually don't care about, such as not having a return/onwards ticket when entering as a tourist.

Would one assume this will make BR passport process more or less difficult? I need to renew the kid's and can wait for a more opportune time if necessary.

Maybe not 3C... I recall that during the last Op Pad at GRU, the PF in Fpolis was functioning normally, so maybe the guys in Ctba will not adhere to the slowdown. Afterall, we live in the 'european south', where things function differently...
I might bark, but I don't bite.

(trolls, sock puppets, Brasil-bashers, and "Joined:Today" persons too lazy to use the Search function excluded; cry babies too)

Years ago the greve at Guarulhos was a nightmare. This might not be so bad since the Gov has replaced most of the PF with tercerizados in the passport check and stamp window.Wink

I don´t think that would effect passport process, because most of it is done by employees (terceizados) not by PF agents.

Depending on the city where you apply, you have to wait at least a month for an appointment to apply for a Brazilian passport. Ouch

they're saying about 2 months. We're in no hurry, and expired is expired, so whatever.

Several years I came though GIG in Rio when the PF were "em greve." The guy never opened my passport and asked me in Portuguese did I have a visa. I said yes  and he waved me through. When I left Brazil, the guy just rolled his eyes when I explained why I had no stamp or entrance card. He didn't stamp my passport either.

It seems that the PF in Minas has jumped on board too. Quite inconvenient as I have 10 days to finalise my visto de permanencia now that its been approved. A bit of bad luck as Ive already made the 6 hour trip to the PF minus a single document that I accidentally left behind. Some sites are reporting that it will continue at least until tomorrow, but lets see...

I´m not sure about the imigration check in CNF, but people who want to leave BH through CNF have to face big lines at the PF passport control counter !!!Confused
