Insurance companies around the world are built on the strategy of collecting premiums and denying claims.

Despite the Dutch name, as you spoke about going back to the UK I assume you're British, and therefore you've inherited the British natural stoicism.

I had a similar experience on the Isle of Itaparica, the Brazilians diving for cover - even though we were inside a house and the shots were outside - and my British mate and I calmly drinking our beers.

As a nation we´re not given to panic easily in such situations.

Of course the other possible explanation is that we're just stupid!

A friend of mine was sitting happily in the 'cidade maravilhosa' on his patio sitting an ice cold and without even hearing anything different from normal received a 'bala perdida' in his upper arm and spent 4 days in hospital.
