I have known afew people like you, who work on the Platforms for a couple of months and come back, thats not living the life and your companies do everything to help you out here, you are not alone. I knew a guy once who lived just like you. After a couple of weeks he had enough and went back to work. Other people on the Helicopter run, you know what i mean.
The Brazilian system is there to help people like you not me though, i am on my own, big time, i dont have a huge Oil Exploration company behind me.

I knew a guy like you once, he was no different, but after a while he could run back to the Oil Platform and leave the place behind, thats not real life.
Also like i have said, people live in different places. i actually would like to go to visit Fortaleza again and the climate is dryer than down here. Less rainy and humid, thats how i like it.

Haha oh brother. Here we go again. Trust me you don't know anybody like me porque I am above your social class (desculpa if this hurts your feelings).

I don't work on rigs and not a rig pig of sorts like your buddies. I design and oversee the construction of them amongst other floating structures. There are times of course I have to venture on them to make sure they are installed in place correctly overseeing a large team of monkeys similar in intellectual capacity as yourself. Had to make this crystal clear for you due to obvious problems on your end.

Hope in your next life you get a proper education and are taught the smarts to make opportunities happen for yourself wherever you may dwell. Sounds like you need that free acai bad!!!!!

So you oversee their construction but you dont work on them? Hmmm!
and your workers are monkeys ..Hmmm!!
Oh please save me the BS, i have been around, seen it and done alot of it. And i dont need to brag about it either like most BS'rs do  Embarrassed

All you need to do is check the standing of Brazil in the World Health Organization categories like infant mortality rate, life expectancy, access to health care, etc. Check homicides and other safety statistics from the various government websites. All these reports will give you a good idea of how the country is run. All this can be done with simple google search.

If the United Kingdom is at the top of the list and Brazil is at the bottom what would you expect in going to Brazil?

It boogles my mind how people can go without knowing thse things.

Good question, but why do people climb mount Everest, why do people do anything. Also you have to remember that things have gotten worse over here, my territory has changed dramatically over the past 8 years, as i said things have changed in the past year alone.
Many people who comment on here are like Toasty, they dont live here or they live on an Oil Rig or somewhere else. They dont live in any real world, if they did they wouldnt be sitting here all day bolstering a dysfunctional culture. Toastys defending his dream, he isnt living it.

I am new to this forum and I must say that some of this commentary is funny if not sometimes ridiculous.

But I have a question for Amsterdam. Why all the negativity and yet you say that you still live in Brazil, why not leave? what makes you such an expert on everything from marriage, investing, oil rigging, palm trees, banking, personal relationships,  etc.
yet you see fit to attack anyone that does not agree with your convulsed point of view.

Just curious.

You have obviously done a whole lot of minimum wage work in your been around, seen it and done alot of it time! Haha!

research what a naval architect does and get back to me with your brilliance. Why not stop into Petrobras, Chevron, or Shell in Rio and further research your claim. You'll get a lot of smirks I am sure.

You might just be one of the most intellectually challenged souls ever on here. Toodles for now and enjoy your lameness. Lol

Well if there was a touch of naivety involved in the move then it’s perhaps understandable: Here we have a young couple starting out in life. The guy’s wife is Brazilian. There is a family business established. The European economy has all but tanked. The international propaganda about Brazil has been rampant; big growth, a rising middle class, the World Cup and Olympics, Samba tits & ass friendly people future, future, future bull shine. The reality of this unequal, underdeveloped potholed, ill cultured and under educated country is so harsh that it beggars an outsider’s belief.

First of all, unless you pretend to have children, why would the child mortality rate be important?

In the second place, The UK (or US for that matter) is not at the top of either list you mention. At the infant mortality rate, the UK standing is 35 and the US 40. Brazil takes 131th, out of 220, so it's definitely not last. Considering the huge differences throughout the country, it's best state would stand around 95th an the best around 171st. You should also compensate for public and private health care. As a gringo you'd probably not live in the middle of Alagoas or Amazonas deprived of decent health care.

Child mortality rate has never been a consideration in my move and does not influence my life in any way.

Same goes for life expectancy. I have no intention to live the be 90 years old. So this would not influence my decision either.

I came here almost by accident and never left. I have a great life. Could it have been better in the Netherlands? Who knows, no way of finding that out. But if I look at the news and see that people get fined for throwing a cup of butter in the litter box on the street, since that kind of trash should be with the home trash, or see that people in Maastricht get fined for drinking beer standing instead of sitting, I'd say I'm quite happy with my choice.
