![]() Topic: Now that I have my permanent visaPosted: 09 July 2012 at 04:15 |
|
I want to thank everyone who has offered information and advice on this forum, I never would have figured out how to get my permanent visa without this site as a resource. Now that I have my permanent visa, issued from Los Angeles, I need some clarification. First, I read on this forum that I have 90 days from the issue date on the visa to enter Brazil. It does not say this anywhere on the visa and I just wanted to be sure this time restriction is correct. I know that once in Brazil I will register with the Federal Police within 30 days. When I register I will be issued a protocol, a piece of paper, that I keep with my passport. My second question is if I can return to the US with this paper and my passport and for how long I can stay in the US? I thought I read that I could only be gone for 90 days without the actual CIE card, is this true? I would like to come back for about 120 days to finish things up before going back to Brazil to live. Thanks again for all your help!

Everything here seems right.
90 days to go. 30days to register. 90days per trip to the US on the protocolo. If you really need 120, you could make an extra trip to Brazil somewhere during that time (so that it would be 90-30, 60-60, or whatever). You don't have to spend much time in Brazil between trips, but you do need a stamp within 90days of leaving. Edited by nikkij12185 - 09 July 2012 at 09:09 |

That 90 days to go is not true, I went there a lot more than 90 days after, closer to 180 and had no problems. I specifically asked several times at the consulate and they assured me it wasn't a problem.

I have been wondering about this, too. According to the website of the Brazilian consulate in London, the requirement to enter Brazil within 90 days once you have a permanent visa depends on which nationality you are (for reasons of reciprocity). Citizens of the USA are not on the 90-day list. This information is on the link for the permanent visa by means of a stable union. I found the Brazilian consulate in London website to be much more informative than any US Brazilian consulate website.

And about staying out of Brazil once you have registered with the federal police--I heard it can be up to 3 years, but this is just what I have heard....I need to do more research on this.

It took me a little more than six months to get my CIE after my appointment at the PF in SP (first available appointment at the PF wasn't until 3 months after i arrived)

According to their Consular Manual, certain nationals need to enter Brazil within 90 days of having issued the visa, but the US and most western european nations are not on that list. However, this seems to be something that is hit and miss depending on the issuing consulate (they dont all follow to the letter the instructions given by Brasilia).

Thanks for the responses. The Los Angeles Consulate is telling me my visa will not expire if my arrival date in Brazil is longer than 90 days from the date the visa was issued, we will see! I now know , if needed, I can reference their Consular Maual for back up. So, I can schedule things so that I won't need to come back to the US for longer than 90 days on the protocolo. I have another question to ask help with. I will be living in Santos. Does anyone know the closest Federal Police Department that handles foreigners? On the FP website it says there is a station in Santos but I don't think they handle foreigners. Thanks

Since you were issued your permanent visa outside of Brazil, the Protocol is the temporary RNE document. |
