I'm a R.N. trained in the US and fluent in Portuguese, having lived in Brazil many years ago. I would like to work in Brazil as a nurse. I know the salaries are abysmal, but professionally it could be a tremendous experience. Does anyone have any experience with this? What are the possibilities?   Thanks in advance!

Depends on you, how seriously you wannt to work for a Brazilian nurse salary!?!?! Confused

And how much money and effort you want to put into this project.
You´ll have to get your taining and education (incl. certificates) recognized by a Brazilian university (representing MEC) and the states CONSELHO REGIONAL DE ENFERMAGEM (COREN). Most likely the COREN won´t accept ypur whole US training and experiences, so to make it difficult for you, they´ll ask you to repeat certain parts of the Brazilian nurses training, wich means you have to go back to college.

Also keep in mind even if you successfully manage to work in Brazil as a registered nurse, it will be limited to the state where you passed the process. In case you move to a different state, mostlikely you have to do all over again! Ouch

Get more information here:

http://site.portalcofen.gov.br/

Then also google, for the stat´s COREN where you pretend to work.
