Hi Everyone,

For purposes I won't give much detail about...does anyone know if the border city of Santana do Livramento has a border control for Brazil?  I'm going to be checking into Uruguay, but I am trying not to "check out" so was thinking to do a border cross in Rivera and then get my passport stamped into Brazil so I can get back on the books as being back in Brazil, but still technically in Uruguay.

I know Chui has a border control, but I heard that it's like 20km away and hard to get to.

Anyone know?

AFIK, there are a zillion places where you can cross the border in Santana without the feds. Never been there though. My only colleague that would know has already left.

yes, I know quite well that there isn't a problem to cross so I'm good on the Uruguay bit, but I need to get restamped and back in the system for Brazil, so wondering if there is a Brazilian checkpoint in the city, or somewhere nearby?

Jazz,

I kind of feel like from my research that if you cross from Uruguay into Brazil, via the plaza, and don't take yourself to an official to "check in" and get your passport stamped, you'll accomplish what you are looking for.  As long as you make sure to get stamped out of Brazil, and then cross the border back into it...theoretically, you would still be considered "out" of Brazil.

It's not like in the US (if that is where you are from) when you cross from Mexico to USA or Canada...there aren't any border patrol agents waiting there to stamp you in and out.  So if you don't make the conscious effort to go, I think you'll be good.  Maybe just try not to walk across the border with tons of bags, bc then that might look a little suspicious. haha

I think you would have a harder time in Chuy/Chui bc that is a bigger access point and they don't have an "open border" setup like Rivera/Santana.
