![]() Topic: Working from home for foreign companyPosted: 21 June 2012 at 10:32 |

I live in the UK, and my LDR to my brasileira has got to the point where it's either I move to Brasil for good or we call it quits!
What I am wondering is theoretically if I went to Brasil (would have to be tourist visa), and carried on doing the job I do here (IT customer service), from a computer at home, is that in some way illegal? Unfortunately there is no reason for my company to sponsor me or anything etc to move there. I know I can't work on a tourist visa, but this wouldn't be working for a Brazilian company as such, and I would have to be paid to my UK account as I wouldn't be able to open a bank account in brasil. Marriage visa etc would all have to come later, but Im just wondering about this as I would much rather be able to have an income at first, rather then have to quit my job. Thanks! |

Hey Aldino, I don't see any issue in this what so ever.
Technically, you are just taking a 3 month vacation in the Brazilian Government's eyes and they have no interest in taxing your worldwide income until you are some type of permanent resident! I did the same but on a 6 month tourist visa (3 months plus extended it 3 more months). |

it's a grey area, but I really can't envision a scenario where something bad hapens because of what you are doing. There are lots of laws in Brazil.. I think there are much bigger fishies to fry than a totally off-the-grid gringo.

I don' t see no grey area. He' s not working in Brazil. That would involve a Brazilian company, paying tax in Brazil, deposit de FGTS etc. etc.

it's grey Sven because Brazilians (or residents or tourists) are taxed on worldwide income, if they are resident in Brazil for greater than the defined amount of time (6 months I think without looking). Most people probably wouldn't bother with it since it's more difficult to declare it than not to declare it.

1) you can' t be in Brazil for more than 6 months as a tourist (180 days as a matter of fact), so they won' t be taxed.
2) one must have a CPF to pay taxes. Unless you are a resident, you don' t have to fill out tax return. It's not grey, but even if it where, very very very close to white. |
