Hahaha... Simple divorce huh.   This is Brasil.  Brasil women are slightly different than most, thinking tends to go out the window at times of rage, simple divorce when you dont get along and agree to go your seperate ways seems acceptable BUT.... It seems to be general concensus among my wife and her friends that the accepted punishment for cheating on a wife should be at very minimum cutting off of your most private and treasured budy part while you are asleep :O    In rare cases death and being chopped up into little peices seems to be not frowned apon but they do agree it is on the extreem side of things LOL.

This country is very much in most ways a country of two sides.  On one hand its seen as normal to be going out with many "partners" at the same time with unwritten rules that you are not allowed to ask about the other persons other "partners"  to be in a sort of relationship but its not allowed to be in a relationship!  you are simple "Ficando" (sorry if I spelt it wrong)  Ok so in reality you are friends with benifits, F... buddies or whatever it could be called but here its named and its normal.  There seems to be no problem and no jeoulosy. BUT THEN........ when you decided to rename your relationship to being namorados.... you are the sole property of the other person.  If you dare look at another person of the opposite sex, talk to your old friends on the internet or stay out later after work to have a few drinks with your mates... then look out!  At this point however you can still get away with a bit of naughtyness and escape with your parts intact.  It wont be pretty, there will be lots of screeming, proberbly some physical violence, words will appear such as diablo, filha de puta, and my personal favorite and strangely enough said perfectly in english.... "I hope you rot in H_ll" .  But thats OK.. you can still get away, proberbly leave the city or state so you dont run into her again or her friends.. who by the way are most likely to try to pick you up and turn you into their ficante without telling there friend!
So the next step is the dangerous one.. you get married.  At this point you and your privates now change hands (figuratively LOL)  you no longer have any right to complain if you do the dirty and then wake up one morning in a pool of blood seeing your once lovely wife dancing around the bed room with your donger in hand chanting and laughing hysterically.  (also using the formentioned words and terms)
While I write this in a bit of humor.. and is certainly based on many generalisations.... beware.  Its not uncommon and certainly does go even further than this as the guy in the news found out.   And this only made the news because he was rich!
For me its no problem.. My wife would proberbly do what she says if I ever cheated on here true.  I have no intention of doing that and think that any guy who cheats and thinks he can get away with it, wants the best of both worlds proberbly deserves it too.  Do the crime....etc etc etc.

So for this sad couple its a tradejy for them both.  She could have devorced him and been rich, but then she would proberbly mysteriously disappear or fall victim to some "random" accident.  As for him... well I think really he was always in for a truck load of problems.
Sorry if I have rambled.  My mind needed a break from real work for a bit :)

"Brazil women" really? Havent you heard all the stories about men killing their ex girlfriends?
Its not about brazilian women or men being this and that its about brazilian CULTURE its full of "machismo" which would explain this kind of behavior from BOTH men and women.
Jeez keep reading a lot of ridiculous comments about brazilian women here and as being one of them it annoys me greatly, would be nice to stop spreading some machismo. Sorry if overreacting but generalisations get on my nerves :)

hahahaha.. Sorry if I offended you. My post was a little bit tounge in cheek and yes is more a comment about Brasil culture than the women in general.
As for generalizations getting on your nerves..... Ummmmm think you made one yourself there :)

The fact are there though that yes "in general" Brasil women are in many ways different that women from many other countries, they are "generally" more reactionary, more protective and also more loving! When looked after they are the most caring and loving women that I have come across and would not trade my Brasilian wife for the world.
My comments are based on what Brasilian women have told me, the comments THEY have made and what I have seen in the last 2 years of living here in both SP and Parana.
You also only need to see the number of posts in certain parts of this forum regarding Love and relationships to realise its not just my opinion.

Now dont get me totally wrong here. I agree with you that there is a lot of machismo in Brasil and this may very well be the reason for the way many (I know not all) women here think and act. In fact that I think is the reason Gringos are generally pretty well sought after in Brasil. Good for us huh :)   BUT this does not change the fact that the behavior is present. It is part of the culture.
Also if you read my comments you will see that I dont agree with the actions of this guy at all. Its never acceptable to cheat on your GF, BF, wife or husband. He was the first to do wrong!

And yes we all hear about angry men killing there wifes of girlfriends in a fit of rage. But this post was about a particular sad event that happened the other way around and particularly sad due to the fact that if she had simply been smarter about it all she could have simply taken him for a heap of money in a divorce and headed for a better stage of her life.. Tragic really now he is dead and she will be in prison.

This was just a bizarre story that could have happened in many places ... including the US or Europe or whatever.

I will say that I disagree with most of the stereotypes of Brazilians. Maybe they're accurate for Cariocas or Bahianos that spend all their free time on the beach or something. However, your average working stiffs in Sao Paulo have more in common with New Yorkers or Londoners than they do with Bahianos.

Just a thought.

I find cariocas to be very odd people in general a little disengenuous at times.
