I would like to rent my home/apartment on short term rental (less than a month), using an online website to advertise it. Am I required to register as a realtor to do this?

Can anyone advise me on what the law is?

Well probably something like Home Away, rather than Craigslist.

I read that only realtors are (legally) allowed to rent property in Brazil under federal law 6530, but am having trouble finding a source and good explanation of that law.

I'm surprised to hear it... and wanted to see what this forum thought.

Everyone can rent out his own property, what you cant do is rent out the property of others as in intermediary without a realtors license

All I can find so far, is this: "In Brazil, only estate agents are authorised to participate in real estate transactions. The profession has been recognised and regulated by national legislation since the 1960s. Only the property owner and the estate agent can do business in this segment, within Brazilian territory. " From the AngloInfo website. But it's just another quote without references to any law.

So renting your owned property on a short term rental basis without a realtor license doesn't break any Real Estate law? You wouldn't have any pointers as to where I could find a reference to that online or otherwise, would you Sven?
