Hello!

I'm a native Swede with fluent english. I've been planing to travel to Salvador by the start of next year to visit a couple of friends. I've been unemploymed for quite the while and im longing to see some new places in general and if possible learn the language.

Currently reading up on what the rules of working in br, seen some of you talking about money under the table, is it common? any guidelines for me? best approach for finding work? In school i studied industrial with welding spec. I doubt it would be of any use.

The goal is to reach brazil and then prolong my stay as i have not much of a budget.

Thanks in advance

Foolish strategy IMO. Bring enough money--no, more than enough-- to sustain you for the entire time you intend to stay. Prices have skyrocketed.

The law states that a company must sponsor you for a work visa and in order to do that, must prove that there is no Brazilian qualified to do the job.

So what? There are dozens of foreigners in Salvador who speak fluent English, many of them even native speakers, and who came with the same (unrealistic) notion of being able to leverage it. The 'market' here is limited. And not every person who speaks a language can teach it; there are some specialized skills involved.

It may be possible to find a language school that would risk a substantial fine to employ you under the table, but I doubt it. And even so, they don't pay enough to live on. Otherwise, jobs in Brazil are found through people you know. You could set up to give private lessons, but it takes a long time to make enough connections in the right places and you'd need a lot of students on a continuous basis to sustain yourself.

Enjoy Salvador.

Hi there,
Yes, there is a way and is not under the table.
But why Salavador?
Sao Paulo or Rio you could get a better paying.
You could teach your own language there in Brazil, is a huge country and there is place for everybody there.

It's hard to imagine someone stating on a public website that they intend to enter Brazil and work illegally, while revealing their real name, real photo and Facebook page? The Federal Police have probably already entered your details into the database and will be waiting for you so they can turn you around at the airport and put on the next flight back to Sweden.

Salvador is tough job wise, mate. I've been sending CVs there as well and have been getting little or virtually no replies. Have had far better success rate with SP or Rio. Same story applies to Recife in PE.
