a lot of people around here claim to be police, or father of police, or whatever, when they want something.  someone recently got into an accident with one of our mechanics and started to get grumpy about calling the cops, saying that he was a policeman, bla bla, we shouldn't call, or he'd make trouble.  our guy said he didn't care and called anyway, the cops came, the mechanic asked if the cop knew the guy.  nope, and the guy in question admitted that he wasn't a cop and just said it to try to get off the hook.  the real cop was amused, but i don't think he got in trouble, he wasn't impersonating, he was just a liar.

i'd get out the salt shaker- lots of people claim to be cops. 

the ones who really are, at least in the city, are not vocal about it, we know a few and they're gente boa.  (federal, state and guardas.) 
it's the vereadores and their attachments that are F da Ps.

I only know one cop personally, and hes a cousin of my husbands...awesome dude, lives/works in the same rural area wjere he grew up and takes it seriously. I dont know anything about the politics of where he works.

People avoid the cops like the plague here in Vitoria. As a matter of fact a friend yelled at me when I asked a PM for directions (even though he was perfectly nice about it.) she told me never to interact with them unless they came to me. The us/them mentality with people/the cops has been one of the strangest things to get used to here. Wow, that was way off topic, sorry.

My BIL is PM.  I never really thought about trying to capitalize on that.  If someone here told me their brother in law was a cop, I'd laugh in their face.
