There will be no Tenente Fulano, just some bureaucrats most likely. AFIK, the fine is R$ 1,38 per year you are late, so in your case some R$ 20.

Prblem is you might have to wait in line from 3 at night to be helped at 11.

Thank you for the information, Sven. It's been hard to get any exact info as to how I go about getting this sorted out in Brazil. The consulate people were helpful getting me a passport but thoroughly unhelpful with any info as to the Brazil side of things. All the consulate guy would say is how they take these things very seriously, people have even gone to jail for it...etc. I have a feeling that's he's being a tad over dramatic about it all, but nobody seems to know anything for sure.

I guess if all I have to worry about is a long wait and small fine then I don't really have that much to worry about after all.

Even if he moves to Brazil he probably will never serve. Only poor people that want to serve are actually called.

^^ This ^^

It was different in the past

My older cousin born in Buenos Aires in the 1950s, had dual national w/Brasil and Argentina.

He had to renounce his Brasilian citizenship, however, because he was required to do 2 years of service in the Argentine military.

Back then you had to choose

But nowadays, the situation is different, and yes, find a dispachante and get the going rate for getting out of such inconveniences, lol
