Good luck with YOUR English.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, even though your use of the term ingrish made it appear you were being sarcastic. I quoted you to make the point that poor english is good enough for most. You were the one saying to not take engrish lessons from Koreans prior to that. While it seems that ECOnline is not a native english speaker he/she was able to communicate with all the people flaming on him/her just fine. Most people taking ESL will never live in an anglophone country, so maybe learning english for $3/hr from a Korean works for some, rather than paying $30/hr from a native speaker. The native speaker will gaff it that while not seeing the contradiction that he/she is not fluent in the language of the country he/she is teaching in but seems to be able to live just fine.

I agree that one's goals and the cost/benefit of taking from a native speaker should be evaluated.

If you take lessons from anyone who speaks the language like most Koreans do, you won't learn it properly. I taught Koreans for several years, the vast, vast majority do not know how to use articles, phrasal verbs, etc. Many of my students were teachers themselves, and their English was not very good.

Furthermore, online one can find lessons for $10 with educated, trained, native speakers.

As you said, it depends on one's goals/budget.
