I recently received approval for a permanenet visa, and was given a stamp int he passport along with a new protocol.
I asked Itau Bank if I could now open an account, and was told "not quite." I need a document withparents' name on it - they suggested a "sincre." Based on my research it appears this can be obtained at PF or Receita Federale. Does anyone know which? Maybe neither? Alternative document? Thanks! -fred |

You get it at the Policia Federal.
You fill out a paper applying for it and pick it up a week or so later. You can also use a long form birth certificate. Translated by a sworn translator of course. |

Do you have already a CPF ?
When I opened an account ITAÚ didn´t ask for a document with my parents names. But usually you need the CIE (Cédula de Identidade para Estrangeiros) which shows your RNE number. And according to your information above, you´ve just applied for the CIE (that´s wjhat the new protocolo is for) so it will take abou t 3 to 6 months before the CIE will be ready. |

Thanks for your response. I've had the CPF for about 5 years, but the bank insists that it's not sufficient ID for purposes of having an account. Your info re the CIE squares with what the PF told me at the time of issuance of the new protocol.

The best thing to do is go to the(ministerio do trabalho) and ask then for a (Carteira de trabalho) this is a document which has digital photo, your full name, parents name and this document can be used as id card in brazil, it´s free to be issued, my wife opened a bank account in itau with it, and every where we go in brazil she just show her carteira de trabalho as id card, you can aply for it as son as you get you protocolo when you first time aplied for a permanent residency card(spouse of brazilian citizen).
good luck
