Sorry to clarify...I used 27.5 tax as we would be paying in Brazil. However I had to adjust the calculation due to some other considerations I'd forgotten before, so the final net salary would be around 150K to rent a family place and live in Rio. Can it be done with reasonable comfort? An old car is fine.

Why a housekeeper? Only Brazilians have one.

...On the other hand I can manage without one provided that reliable babysitting is available and I can get some hours of cleaning each week. In SIngapore a live in help is the only easy and legal way to get such help. Can you get hourly cleaners easily in Rio?

Babysitting is not very common here, at least among most classes of people, I am not sure how easy you will find it

Depending on how long your rental contract period is extended, too, will determine the price you pay in rent. Also, you'll be subject to being taken advantage of through rental companies or negotiating with some local. Make sure you arrive and stay in a hotel long enough to search and find what is appropriately acceptable for you and your family!
150K in Rio, is plenty! Edited by Gringodude - 04 April 2012 at 13:50 |
