Makes sense considering where we live.
What a dumb ass country but I still love it here for some reason.

Yup, in a modern building, or a well build house, you can just throw it in the toilet.

If it looks like it's going to clog, just throw a few huge buckets of water in the toilet and start using the basket.

I live in a 30 year old building about 2 blocks from the center of Goiania, and my girl still insists that you can't flush your sh/t tickets.  Is she...full of it?

Because she learned to be PLUMBING PARANOID, after living in Brasil longer you will also turn PLUMBING Paranoid

Haaha, I've done my house plumbing, no stinking toilet paper collection needed. Flush it away, babe.

I saw how it was made when we teared down the old house. They don't know how to use Y-connections in the 100mm sewer plumbing, they use the "T"'s only
, that explains the blockaging and the blockage is a real pain to clean (know that from my sister in laws house).
Also the "pedreiros" have no clue what inclination means, the pipes are too leveled to give good flushing efect.

Ask what is "air admittance valve" or why you need one (or the vent pipe), without it you can get nasty back siphonage, when the tubes are trying to get air in... That causes the sinks to drain slow and "pulping" when the water is draining. Also it is not uncommon to see the shower siphon to fill up due to other sinks in use, everything is connected together, preventing proper drainage.

In multi story buildings these "no-clue" plumbing jobs can cause serious problems, you may not want to live on the botttom floorsLOL.

I hate this sh*t...literally.

I built a house 10 years ago and made sure the pipes leading to the fossa were done right. I have not once had a toilet clog, and the fossa gets pumped out every couple of years. Now the municipality is engaged in a project to connect everyone to a main sewer pipe on the street, currently being installed. Fortunately I have sold the house and probably won't be around long enough to see what damage that does.

We're moving to an apartment, which is now under construction. I made the sales office and the builder sign a document attesting to the fact that I will be able to flush toilet paper down the toilet. The apartment isn't finished yet (another month or so), so I have no idea whether they will make good on that promise.

I don't need to be right; I just don't want to be wrong.

It depends if you live in a house, in a house it would probably go into a sceptic tank or hole under the ground, which would take around 100 years i would have thought to fill up with bog roll..haha
The choice is yours my friend...strange though isnt it..yuck!

This has always baffled me too, and it's going to change in time. I think that as the gap between the social classes change, many of the better-off and middle-class Brazilians will stop being able to afford someone to clean their sh*t-bins for them, and the whole thing will become a lot more personal.

I did however read that the cellulose in the majority of toilet paper is actually designed to aid the biodegrading process in the fossa, assuming there is one. However, the arrival of the quilted four-ply toilet paper has caused issues, as it does take longer to dissolve. There is some argument about if cellulose does help or hinder the process, but generally paper made from recycled sources is considered better than the softer brands.

I am building my own house and refuse to have bins anywhere in bathrooms/toilets, preferring to send Brazilian friends who can't manage the concept to do like the bears, and sh1t in the woods!
