Hi, Denise.

I work for the overall Methodist Church, not a specific congregation, but the Methodist Foundation in Belo Horizonte is run by a misssionary named Gordon Greathouse.

Ok, thanks. One of the reverends in BH was an assistant at my church in SP, and worked at favela do Heliópolis too.

I found this article about volunteering interesting, not sure if info is up to date.

Hi all,

Newbie here. I will be moving to BH in December. I am currently visiting for a
month to look for places to rent. Anyone have any advice of finding rental
property? I would like to find a house but there are not many on the market.

Any gringo meets in the future for BH?

Hi, Landon.

Sorry for the delay. For the rentals, but you could try looking in the online classifieds of the local newspapers if you or someone around you reads Portuguese (look under imóveis aluguel)

We are also going to try to start a monthly gathering for English-speaking ex-pats in Belo Horizonte--First Fridays.  The first Friday of every month we'll meet at the Café 3 Corações (Avenida Cristóvão Colombo, 152 in Savassi) at 19:00, starting on Friday, 1 December 2006.

Good luck and welcome!

This might be a little too late... but are you looking *just* for volunteer work or for an actual job too? It couldn't hurt to look into EABH (Escola Americana de Belo Horizonte). I'm not sure how often they need new teachers, though... EABH is a nice little school... tiny, absolutely tiny, but nice :)

Christine,

Good to hear about the meet up. I'll miss the first one. I am not moving there till the 14th of December. I did find a nice apartment close to Savassi. Now all I need to do is buy a car.

Just to echo Denise's comment, we can advertise any meet up on both the site and the email newsletter. Either let me know here, or drop an email with the details to gringoes@gringoes.com.

A lot more people are reading the main site and the newsletter than the forum.
