Hi,

I'm looking for people living in Belo Horizonte.  There don't seem to be many "gringoes" here, I've met one other woman.  Also, I'm looking for some volunteer work here in Belo.  Any suggestions?

The user zecapagodinho is there, working mostly I think (hopefully he doesn't mind me saying, but he's mentioned it on the forum before). Zeca's a gringo with the most-o, so may have already hooked up with some gringos there.

Yeah Nancy, Russ is right. I've seen a few around (mainly tourists) and of course my fellow work colleagues (about 40-50 of them).

Regarding volunteer work in BH, I'm sure there's some around. I'll ask some of the Brazilians here at work.

This weekend I might be heading back to SP to visit my family, not 100% sure yet so drop me your contact details via PM maybe we could hook up.

ZecaP.

Russ mate, your too kind. Ever thought of going into politics? Brasil could do with an honest bloke like yourself.

Haha, I'm sure the offer of cash in my underpants would corrupt me eventually

Denise,

I'm not really sure. I am a teacher (primary school and music) in Canada so maybe somewhere that could use those skills.  I'm here accompanying my spouse who is working in Brasil so am basically looking for something to do here.  I don't have a work permit/visa.

Hi, Nancy.

I am a volunteer with the Methodist Church here, and there are a multitude of opportunities for volunteering in Belo Horizonte (both with the church and also with non-church-related organizations). Your possibilities will depend largely on how much Portuguese you already know.  When I first arrived, I had to be a "teacher's helper" for a few months until I knew enough Portuguese to teach English classes and substitute teach music classes for kids.

For more info, you can call (in Portuguese) the Methodist Foundation for Social & Cultural Action at 3447-0373 or to communicate in English, send an e-mail to f.metodistabh@veloxmail.com.br .

Good luck!

5 weeks and counting! The job opportunity had been simmering away for 6months so I didn't spill the beans until I had my ticket in hand.
