Does anyone know if CAIXA only does financing for Brazilian citizens, or do they provide financing for residents too?

They do, with BR proof of income.

Most everything I need is within a 400 meter radius of where I live. I'm sorry, I just can't be like the Brazilians that get in their cars to drive less than 1 km.

How unamerican. I knew someone in the states that got in her car to get the paper a the end of the 150 m driveway

Wrong, they do. You'll need a Br source of income.

Mostre a "declaração de renda" or "comprovante de renda" as they say here for the income statement, and there you go.

Some banks require some period (6 months) of actions in the bank account. Money in - money out (movimento).

The same thing in US, if you are not US citizen and have no credit history, you need to pay in cash. You can't get credit card if you have no credit history. You can't have credit history if you have no credit cardConfusedConfusedCryCryTongue TongueLOLLOLShocked

it was a neighborhood branch in BH. I told the lady I taught English and she asked for my payment receipts, I told her didn't have any. She said to make some and bring them later. We then continued opening my account.

I never returned to that branch again.

How unamerican!! Don't compare me to those people AngryAngry. I'm going stateless and I will form my own country! Just kidding. I only want to have a Brazilian passport and that's it.

About the financing...
Well, the corretor kept saying Ahh.. that's nothing / no problem!! But you know how things are in Brazil; there's always some VERY small detail that nobody ever said anything about that bites you in the bunda.

Turns out that I have a nice amount of $$$ going into the bank account. Cash transactions are NOT included, unfortunately, even if I give a nota fiscal because I don't deposit cash. I only need something like R$ 40k after my bigger sinal that I already paid. I don't want to exchange dollars right now because I'm waiting for Gringo.Floripa's exchange rate prediction of R$ 2,40 before I exchange dollars. I have a feeling I'll be waiting until 2020 for that though LOL

Some of the quotes they were giving me were really high, like R$ 1.600/month for a R$ 180.000 loan. The told me the taxa de juros é "apenas" 8% e não tem taxas "extras" - ah tá! veremos!
