Boris, for a long time posted and responded about real estate because that was his source of income, or so I think it is ... So, I am almost sure Boris derived some $ from this Forum, by meeting people via PM or private message(s), and selling his services privately here, which I think is not fair to the Forum‘s owner; Kieran Gartlan. I met Boris once a looooong time ago. That said, myself being involved with property, in Rio for a long time, my own … I've never heard anyone within the business who knows Boris and I think that’s a little weird and I question how Boris makes enough $ to live the Brasilian Expat Life in the mountains high above Rio in a small town with very few jobs and not many people. However Boris seems to make a living in Brasil so more power to him so long as it’s legal and he’s not cheating anyone or defrauding any entity, person or government. Frankly, I wouldn’t blame Boris if he didn’t make a return, despite my wish that he would do so. Presumably he got caught up in the cacophony of what can only be described as witless and childish banter that has gone viral on this forum of late. Members purporting themselves to be grown men behaving as disturbed adolescents when they post moronic comments with the sole intent to either hurt or insult while lacking the skill to otherwise express themselves. There can be no winners or losers with these types of demeaning squabbles, save to say that the silent majority who read such posts make their own judgement about the intelligence and character of certain members when, I fear, that some may make their choice not to participate in what may be reasonably described as a ‘low brow’ forum because they may be ridiculed by the few insensitive morons completely lacking in self-respect that stalk and provoke. You know who you are, now go and reflect. |

Some of my posts may be interpreted to be 'abusive' or 'unpleasant.' Yet, I am always aiming at: 1) freely expressing my opinion of ESL teaching in Brazil. 2) freely expressing my honest opinion of life in Rio de Janeiro 3) responding to members who attacked me for having such opinions. It is impossible to have freedom without childish bickering. The internet proves that. Youtube is filled with childish bickering and insults. Fortunately, this forum is filled with plenty of information as well. All threads are responded to with real information that would be hard to find elsewhere. There are two choices: restrict people's freedom of expression, or deal with those opinions you find unpleasant. Anyone who moves to a new country and is that put off by a few comments on an internet board has bigger problems than gringoes.com's gringos maluquinhos. |

Dude, you are nuts. You think I am dissatisfied with Brazil because of PPP? You are out of it, for real. How would this end in real life if you lived in the US? OH! You mean in Dallas? Well, let me guess, you would fall asleep around 5:30 after an early-bird dinner and watching Matlock. Or did you mean to personally threaten me? If so, please clarify and you will be banned. Or come find me in real life and prove you are a big man, seu medroso covarde! Everything I say about RIO is true. It is filled with townies, it's not an international culture, it's not receptive to gringoes who have opinions that may differ even SLIGHTLY from the masses. This is not a great thing. I came here smiling. I learned conversational Portuguese in a matter of months (I speak 4 languages). That didn't do it for me. I found the average carioca to be insanely dull, uneducated, and full of prejudice. Services are terrible. Teaching English is a profession a joke. Brazilian students are lazy. These are all legit opinions Bobby! I came without them. I smiled. I learned the language. I came to my own conclusions. That's life. Now I share them with others. As I said, I think Texas, in general, is a junk hole. So, I'm not full of prejudice. Guess what. PPP is not everything. The US is not heaven. Just because you got hitched to a Brazilian does not mean that you have to bash anyone who loves living in the US. Get over it man! Your opinion is just that, an opinion. I am basically the only gringo on the forum who has a slightly negative opinion of Brazil. Isn't a diversity of opinions valid and valuable? Maybe, on this forum, it's not. Maybe there are no others like me because you and GD drive everyone else like me away with sarcastic remarks and personal attacks. Many gringos think Brazil is some tropical paradise. It's not. I feel responsible for informing the other youngsters who may venture to live here. I've got nothing to censor. You are seriously pathetic man. Get over yourself. |

I'm not taking sides in these recent squabbles but expt2233 I agree with alot of what you have said recently. Incidently a few of the more vocal people on here continually boasting of the great things about Brazil seem to spend every waking minute of the day on here...seems a bit deluded to me. |

There is a third choice and that is to collectively move a long and try to gain some ground on the point of this thread as a whole. Let us step back and as stated; "Go and reflect". Meaningfully aware of all involved I bet it's most certainly worth everyones' while. The objective is meaningful discussion, again stated this time by you: "There is plenty of information as well". If you agree, great! If not, that's ok too! We all play our part! |

@Espirit: First day on the Internet?
"I am so grown up and all but the rest are behaving like uneducated children. Shame on you all, now go and reflect" Do us all a favor and you pull the cable on your connection so we don't have to look at the ugly font you use to write your dribble.

Three things: 1) I also have a slightly negative view of my time in Brazil for a lot of the things you pointed out. I don't care/disrespect anyone who likes it A LOT, but I don't generally share that opinion. 2) Bob is incredibly negative about the U.S., to the point that he said he misses NOTHING about his life there, so I have no idea why he'd be upset about someone expressing a negative opinion of Brazil. You've also said in a few posts that you like certain things about Brazil, but that others have become unbearable. I like certain things about Brazil and dislike others. Generally speaking, like I've said, my life was better in many ways when I was in the U.S. That doesn't preclude people from liking Brazil, especially people like Bob, who think Brazilians are irrational and that you should just 'go with the flow.' He also thinks that nobody gets upset about anything here. These are his bizarre characterizations, not mine!
3) In that last post, Bob really reminded me of this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgec9WX21ik Note the passion... Edited by cara0910 - 10 February 2012 at 07:41 |
