You are amazing! I saw you write in several posts here that you are NOT a "lame" (your word) engrish teacher and will do anything to not have to teach english. You hate teaching English...Just face up: you are packing your bags and running back to America because you suck as a teacher and it's too hard for you to make a living.

I was jk, I wouldn't teach you for R$200 per hour. I can refer you to someone though, PM me. You need lessons.

I am not going to say what I did back home, but you can bet it wasn't teaching. Here I did other work as well, but I disliked working with Brazilians.

There are 1000 reasons I am leaving Brazil, and believe me, nothing you say makes me feel bad about it. I'm thrilled to be leaving.

I do not suck as a teacher, but if I did, who cares? That certainly wouldn't be the end of the world!!!

It has been hard for me to make a living here, but even if I won the lottery, I would be leaving.

Maybe I would enjoy living someone other than Rio, but this place is a favela, whether people call it that or not. People live behind bars, everyone is rude, there is almost no true diversity (@racists, I'm not talking about skin color), the 'beauty' of the place is only seen from an airplane, once you touch the ground, the true ugliness of the 'marvelous city' becomes evident.

I don't speak the language of people with short money, but if I were to ever understand it, you just made it sound perfectly clear. You're leaving because you cannot make a living and it's that simple. (no personal care from me)

Oh because I'm sometimes lazy when I type, or mix-in Portuguese words?
That's not really a good justification to be critical and try to pick a fight with people (this is sooo American, why I hated that place). You're just a bitter gringo that flopped in Brazil. It's not an easy to live in Brasil. It takes real men.

SB, I'd just forget about it before you get banned.... Besides are you new? Obviously not! The spelling and grammar checking is all the rage now, we do it on gringoes as a friendly service to each other, Seven has been doing a very good job, giving toolio a break! Hspeak picks up a shift every now and then too! I cannot think of who else has been working, but I'll keep you posted!..

7k a month, I live in Ipanema man it's not enough, is that your point?

7K is enough. My other half earns 5K. That's 12K to live on in Rio. It's enough, trust me. We spend under 5K a month and our problems have nothing to do with consumption.

We are seeking greener pastures, fewer favelas, less violence, and a more educated populace.

Nope, no speculation, just hardcore first-hand knowledge (from a patient perspective).  Otherwise, it is pretty amazing, you are absolutly right!  How often does that happen?

A registered nurse in Brazil in general makes less then an orderly in the States, works twice as hard.

That sounds like speculation about how hard they work...

As far as I know nursing is far more developed in the US than it is in Brazil, i.e. American nurses are responsible for a lot more than Brazilian nurses and have the education to match that responsibility.

That's just what I've heard though. Anybody have any relevant facts?

A lot of the health professions in the US don't exist in other countries. A few examples: there are no PAs (physician assistants, which are not medical assistants...) here in Brazil, dentists (rather than dental hygienists) still clean your teeth in Brazil, and ER medicine isn't even a specialty here.

Or, am I wrong?

That's funny. I've had two sick family members here (my Brazilian family), both were treated at top hospitals, and I thought the care was way, way worse than what I saw when I worked at a hospital in the US. The nurses and aids were terrible, and one was even rude and almost cruel.

I guess that's why anecdotes aren't very useful.
