This is all pretty average. The value of these items is much more in Brazil and customs officials have a lot of power and, as he said, he needs to justify his salary.
Fatima needs to improve her bribing skills.
Criminals are never very amusing. It's because they're failures. Those who make real money aren't counted as criminals. This is a class distinction, not an ethical problem.

Import taxes: the most regressive taxes there are.

Only the wealthy who can travel to Miami to buy their junk think they deserve not to pay Brazil's ridiculous import taxes.

I also heard that now you can no longer take 10k US with you into BR.
Seems that is only 10k reais which is very different than US dollars.

So you guys are in big trouble if you carry more than 10kreais into this country.  Confused

This country is stupid and ridiculous.

Nowhere in the world this happens.  BR is the only nation with import taxes.

You can bring all the paper money you want but you must declare it!!! There is a form on the internet you fill out send and print before you travel.

Notice how the limits (R$ 500) never went up. Brazil has to be the most opportunistic country for taxes I have ever seen! Don't forget that people pay: A departure tax to leave Brazil and an 8% tax on credit card transactions overseas!!

Clothes are only "insento" if they are used. Play Stations are part of the U$ 500 rule, as are the clothes if they are new. Same goes for cosmetics. Has to be used....

I told my wife about this, and she said that her cousin has been bringing in tons of stuff without paying anything. I bet it's like everything else in Brazil: it depends on which fiscal you deal with.

I'll never foget the last time I came into Brazil 6 years ago: There was a Brazilian in front of me that had boxes stacked to the ceiling and they waved him through. I had almost nothing -- one backpack and a small rolling suitcase -- but they made to go to the little room at GRU to be searched! Brazzzziill!
