I guess I was thinking that since I applied in the same place as Sara, 2 months before she did, and have been waiting for another 3 months after she received her visit, that I might have had a visit by now too; and since I haven't, that something might be wrong, or the file might be being used as a paperweight somewhere, and I should try to 'do' something to make sure there isn't anything holding it up that I can fix.
But I guess that's probably too logical, right? What would be the appropriate amount of time that I should wait before becoming concerned that it's not going to happen?
When I lodged the paperwork, they told us 3 months, but that our area usually doesn't take that long. I know from reading lots of posts here that it's taken a lot longer for some people, but since Sara here mentioned it only took 10 days for her, and I lodged my application in the same place, and before she did, I guess I thought that maybe there was something else going on with mine.

and a few posts later GF posted that he waited 10 months. So, I don't think there is anything to "do"...just sit and wait.

Give it another month and then go visit them.  Be prepared to find that they lost your paperwork.  It's Brazil, you're going to make yourself nuts if you expect things to happen "as planned", even here in the south.  (meant kindly)

From personal experience (although the OP had a different experience), as HP mentioned, it took them approx. 10 months to stop by my house for a cafezinho.

3casas made a good suggestion.  Go pay a visit, but don't go in locked and loaded with "WHY haven't I had my home visit yet?!?"  Ask them instead if perhaps there's a document you still need to provide, etc.  I had thought they'd lost my file, but after my polite inquiry if there was still more documentation needed, the visit occurred approx. six weeks afterwards....

While this can never be proved, I have a hunch that Sara's address just happened to be close by to someone else they needed to visit, so they just went ahead and included her in the same trip.  When I provided a list of references, they wanted to know exactly which part of the island each person lived, and they then crossed out the ones which would be out of their way/too far to travel to....  Confused

lucky.. but it is cos they work by area and not by date... so if your area has just been visited a few weeks back then you are going to wait a good 12 months until they are back in your area... However, if you get married a few weeks (or 10 days) before they are visiting your area... then bingo!!!

Thanks for the advice everyone - think I will do just that, wait another month and then go see them again to ask if they need anything else (politely, of course!)

Can anybody top that?

The Feds were surprised themselves and told us that it usually takes much longer. We didn't even have any wedding pictures ready but hopefully that won't influence the outcome.

After all the complicated and nonsensical bureaucracy .. 10 days only!!!!

And here I was thinking you were a dealer or something
