Hello everyone. i just have a quick question. im getting everything done to get married in brazil and i need to know where i can get the declaration of single status. i am sending all of my info to brazil to my future husband so that he can do the registration and i will be there for the actual marriage. is there anything that i can do in the us to get this declaration? any advice is appreciated. thanks.

try your county clerk.
Don't forget to get it (along with the birth certificate) stamped by the consulate with jurisdiction over the document. |

This damn Declaraçao de Solteiro is becoming a nightmare for me. I have a Certificate of Marital Status issued from my home town. In an effort to be "international", they issue it with Danish, English and German written all over it. Result: 3 x official translation at 100 euros each. For a damn declaraçao de solteiro! I contacted my embassy in Brasília, but unfortunately my email was picked up by an intern who clearly didn't know what this was about, and who told me it needed to be authenticated and translated. Crap. Before deciding that getting married in Brazil is a better option than where I live know (Spain), I looked into this same issue here, and there was no issue getting the same declaration from my embassy here based on the same document issued by my home town.

Similarly, I got my civil status declaration done at the embassy. The cartorio wouldn't accept it. They only accepted a declaration written and made at their cartorio. I wish I'd saved the money too. It cost R$90 to declare this and file at the cartorio. |

My sworn Brazilian translator thinks that it is enough to only translate one of the languages that appear on my document and then explain to the cartorio that the other text is identical. May try to get a despachante or a lawyer or anyone with influence to help get this accepted. They could reject it but they could also apply common sense and use their self-proclaimed discretion to accept it.

I think I found a document if you are from the US. It is a divorce document. I found a document that you can get from the state were your divorced was filed. It is one page and it has your names,dates and case number when you were divorced and it is a legal document. What makes this work is at the bottom it is dated and signed by a official the day you request the document. The only catch is the date at the bottom. It has to be within 90 days of your marriage application. I was also told by the registry in Belo Horizonte you can attest to being single with two witness who also state that is true at the registry. I will know for sure in December I am going to apply for a marriage application.

This statement makes you a notary in your city, then you take to be stamped at the consulate of Brazil, then to be translated by a sworn public here in Brazil, then to be registered in the Registry of Deeds and Documents.

This is that the cartorio in Olinda is asking for
1. Certidão de nascimento original e a traduzida ( passar no consulado ou tradutor juramentado) 2. Copia do passaporte traduzido (tradutor juramentado) 3. Declaração de residência com estado civil traduzida (tradutor juramentado) - Nada consta da policia federal do Brasil - Nada consta da justiça federal do Brasil Number 3 where would someone get this get this? The proof of address and single status? This whole single status thing is a PITA... (I am helping out a friend who is getting married in Feb in Olinda) |
