One season doesn't make an entire franchise. The Canucks have won ONE Stanley Cup, since 1970. The Red Wings have won ELEVEN cups since 1926. When the Canucks have been around anywhere near as long as the Wings, with the same type of record, then come and talk to me. I've been to Vancouver, eastern BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and Ontario(many times, as I'm from Detroit). Canada is a beautiful country. But not all the good hockey players play for the Canucks, Canadiens, or the Maple Leafs. My comments were more to show that I was familiar with his hockey team, not to say anyone was better or worse. But what does this have to do with getting married in Brasil ??

Now you're talking smack about canadians and their ability to play hockey. Why not check out the world championship records, pros and junior!

Best of luck!

Again, not at all. If you actually read my post completely, you would have found that I said,"Not ALL good hockey players PLAY for Canadian teams. But if you want to get into it, Montreal(24 cups) and Toronto(13 cups), both since 1917, when there were only 4 teams in the NHL, would argue that Vancouver has a long way to go to be in their league. Detroit was in the NHL for 43 years by the time the Canucks came along. My original comment was just some good-hearted ribbing, not meant to start some discourse about who has the better hockey team. If you want to talk about hockey, maybe you should be on a website that deals with it.   But AGAIN !!! What does this have to do with getting married in Brasil ???

The Canucks never won the cup. The Vancouver Millionaires did! I had to google that one up, but I was sure about the Canucks!

But to our original programming now

With a name like "leroadrunner", are you from Kay-bek(spelling phonetically, lol)? I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. I didn't know if Vancouver had won a cup yet or not. Upon further investigation though, I find that Vancouver has NEVER won the Stanley Cup (La Coupe Stanley, for our fans from Quebec), and only played for it 3 times. Whereas Detroit, on the other hand, has won it 11 times, and played for it another 13, making the Montreal Canadiens(34 appearances/24 wins) the only team that has played more times for Stanley. (Yes, I know that Toronto has won 13 times, but they've only made 21 appearances vs. 24 for the Wings.) I hope this totally exhausts this discussion. Back to getting married in Brasil.

Just to keep everyone informed, I went to the cartorio the first of the week, with my fiancée. She's a real pacifist too. She's always worried about causing anyone any problems. I kept telling her that we should speak to the magistrate/judge instead of this woman, who was giving me the runaround. But she spoke to the woman, and was able to get it (HOPEFULLY) resolved. The woman said, that if my consular certificate(the one that deals with the civil status, that says I'm divorced) had included the name of my ex, and the date that we were divorced, then that would take the place of the marriage license, and the divorce decree/sentence. So, then I remembered that I can't just walk into the Consulate, and get this done. You have to have an appointment. Now, I'm waiting for the date of my appt.(26 Jan). The saga continues...

Again, all this would not be possible, were it not for my favorite Kiwi DeanWatts88... Você é o maior, o senhor Dean !! Sven was instrumental too.

Just got Married in Olinda.. My Advice, every Cartorio seems to request different documentation, and interoperates that documentation differently.
Here is the Web site for the Cartorio we used
http://www.cartoriocivilolinda.com.br
This is what was required for documentation ( I translated )

DOCUMENTATION FOR WEDDING to foreigner
for singles
- Birth certificate translated and original (pass the consulate or translator)
- Copy of passport translated (translator)
- Declaration of residence and marital status translated (translator)
- Clearance in the Federal Police of Brazil
- clearance in the federal courts of Brazil

#1 I did not have or need anything " Legalize"
I had original Birth certificate, Divorce decree and a Bank Statement that had my Canadian Address on it ( I have nothing in Brazil with my name and address in Brasil)) All of this I had translated..They wanted to keep My Original birth certificate, but we convinced them That it was a permanent document and they accepted an certified copy, I would take 2 originals if you have them, your Cartorio may not bee as accommodating..
#2 for Police and Justice clearance you can get online, but you NEED a CPF ID to get this

Bottom Line.. go to the Cartorio you will be using, online or have a friend visit if you cant go, Get what they require in the format they require.. If they are difficult, try a difficult Cartorio..
Don't argue.. they will be offended and make it even harder.. here is a question for you..A passport is an international document why the H**l would anyone need a translation!!...Don't ask why...just do it..
Good luck
