(they just get the stamp and are allowed in, no questions asked) ------ this is exactly what they did to me :)
but as they suggested, better to get a return ticket (refundable) just to be sure. Edited by Stella025 - 20 January 2012 at 17:28 |

Do you want to ruin your trip for the cost of a return ticket ?

First of all, what is the price difference between the single and return ticket ? Is there any at all ? Check out twice, because sometimes the single ticket could cost even more than the return. Anyway, I doubt that anyone will ever check whether you have a return ticket. Don't expect any cavity search upon your arrival, I think the only think you get upon your arrival is a big smile from the beautiful lady working at the desk at Guarulhos |

It has been my experience that a two ticket and a one way ticket cost the same. I have learned to buy a two way ticket, you can always make the return ticket for 3 months and then contact the airline and delay the date you pick to return. You have up to a year to use it. So it may come in handy. If you don't use it, I don't think you are out anymore money than what the one way ticket would have cost you. So unless you get a special deal for a one way ticket, usually the two way ticket is the same price or very close to it.

It you buy directly from TAM, you can pick one way (maybe half or sometimes even third of the R/T price, depends what classes, they have left). This may depend where you want to go? And from where?
I've used that when had no idea of return date to/from US and last time to Brazil, when I moved here.
Going to US they can ask a question if you have only one way ticket, so for any non-US legal resident status owners (not citizen, CC holder or resident alien) that's a NO-NO.
The only place I have ever had a return ticket question, was USA. Even I was with a valid work Visa, just returning from a business trip to MX.
The customs guy asked, do I have a return outbound ticket Edited by tamte - 13 February 2012 at 11:02 |

This is my third and hopefully permanent trip to Brasil, so my passport already has a good bit of ink in it...so take this account with a grain of salt--
I purchased a one way ticket for something ridiculous...like 30k miles or so. Walked through customs, they didn't say a word to me. I did, however, have a 'letter of intent' if you will from a friend of mine in Brasil. The letter had all of her relevant contact/personal information and said that we would head to Patagonia in a few weeks. This was just in case someone did say something. But, like I said...they didn't glance twice at my passport. If you're worried remember to relax. If the person behind the glass is a girl it's not necessarily a bad idea to play the gringo card. Desculpa, linda, eu nao falo Portuguese. |

When I got my visa from the consulate in Santiago last year, I had to provide a bank statement to prove financial solvency. |

Hi, I hope you might be able to provide me with some clarity. I'm Polish and have travelled around South America last year (Venezuela & Colombia) until I got to Brazil, fell in love and stayed there for five months (on the visa extension). Now I'm back in Poland and in a month's time I'm going back to Brazil to stay there indefinitely. I came back home with a return ticket so I only have the one way ticket to Brazil left, and I only have about 30 days left out of the 180 days allowance. Before my return to Poland, me and my Brazilian boyfriend signed a Uniao Estavel (Stable Union) document at a "cartorio" which I was going to use to apply for my permanent visa (although now I know it is far more complicated than that and it's likely I won't be able to obtain the visa straight away). How can I make sure I will be let back into Brazil? I'll be flying TAP from Warsaw. Should I show my Uniao Estavel document or pretend I've come back to continue my trip around South America? When I was getting my visa extension the guy asked for ticket out of the country but I said I was going overland to Argentina and there was no problem.
But given that I only have 30 days left might look suspicious... :( |

It's really about intentions, and like others have said, bus tickets don't show much intention. The bus ticket shows you'll leave, but it doesn't show that paraguay will accpet you, especially if you don't have a ticket out of paraguay! So you'll have the ability to leave Brazil but not the ability to guarantee you'll be allowed through to your next "stop". Basically your intention is to fulfil the requirement of having a way out of Brazil, but the intention isn't to leave.
I like the idea of a round trip as well, if you DO need to return (illness, forgotten document! or some other reason, having a flight ticket 3 months out might be useful. A change fee on that would be far better than having to buy a last minute ticket. |

There is just so much to do in Brazil, and so little time to do it all! Planning my next Brazil Vacation and the countdown has started!

exactly, unless you can show your way out of brazil, even to a neighbouring country, you'll be with worry... buy a refundable return ticket and call it a day!
