You do need to use these in closed rooms. I run them during the week and when I am there, leave them in rooms that I don't use during the day.

I am also replacing the bottom of all my drawers where I store clothes with 'metal expandido' (expanded metal) which will help with air-flow. Stainless steel sheets of this (2000mm x 1000mm cost about R$65).

The electricity bill has not increased notably either, which was something I was worried about slightly.

Otherwise, you're just processing the abundant moisture in the outside air. This won't help for the inside of your closet, but your best bet is to install a quality ceiling fan, and if not using it to cool you off, then at least keep it on the lowest setting, so that the air is always moving, even if minimally. That will help with the humidity level inside your living space.

Those moisture-absorbing kits one buys in the store do work in a closet, but in a year's time, you've spent a small fortune. I rigged up a system that has a black light (UV) on 24/7 inside my closet. It helped considerably with the mold issue.

EDIT: @Finrudd... I was evidently typing while you were too. Are you inferring you use the Ar Sec in a room with the windows open, or is the room closed?

Edited by Gringo.Floripa - Today at 18:10

You can have them connected into a drain, or with a reservoir and you just leave them on in rooms you are not in (you should not stay in the rooms while the machine is on).

They do the job for me - the difference is walking into a room and it feels dry. No humidity, or damp feel - when you get into bed, the sheets don't have that slightly clammy feel to them. It has saved my books too!

There are also 'split' A/C units that will do heating, cooling and dehumidifying - LG do some good ones I am told. So, when we build, we are putting these in, but for now, the mobile units are great.

I've got 2 units from Ar Sec and a third really old one, but also still very good.

At least the guy didn't ask for my wallet too...seen the news footage of dudes getting shot enough to know I shouldn't challenge the guy. Not worth the risk...just kinda shakes you up, I've been in Brasil for more than 3 years all together including almost a year living in a favela, what are you going to do, statistics will catch up to you eventually I suppose
